Ongoing Project – Hero Untitled
I should start by telling you that I’m just a man. I’m not an alien or an experiment or a hybrid of any kind. I’m just a regular guy that can do some irregular things.
I don’t remember when it started, but it must have been when I was young because I always seemed to win at dodge ball, and when there was trouble I was always the first one there (a lot of times before it even started). What did take a while though was my decision to step in and try to prevent it.
I can still see kids being hit, kicked, bullied and tormented when I think back to the school yard. I feel guilty sometimes that I didn’t do anything to stop it, but people have always said that kids will be kids and as hard as you try, the bullying will never really go away.
I hope they’re wrong.
I know that some people that have the kind of abilities that I have secretly hope that the trouble won’t end because they aren’t sure what they’d do with themselves if they weren’t fighting. Not me. If it stops it means that the people are safe, happy and my job is done. I’d be very okay with that.
I also know that I am lucky to have the powers that I have. And while I sometimes I wonder if they really are powers, I suppose they are. I’ve heard whispers and legends of others like me for a long time. Legends of heroes with super strength and speed and vision and flight and such. That’s not me.
I am quick, but not fast. It’s all reflexes with me. I can get out of the way I can move my feet and body and those around me. But I won’t be winning Olympic medals in the 100 meter sprints. It’s why I always won the dodge ball games at school and didn’t get hit by pitches in little league.
The other thing I’ve got going on is almost an ESP kind of thing I guess. I can see and feel when someone plans on making trouble. That’s what put in me position to watch those poor children be bullied back in the day. I can’t read minds though, that’s not how it works. People have asked me, and I’ve tried, but I can’t see what people are thinking or see their memories unless they have evil plans in them.
