Guess Who’s Coming For Dinner – Horatio

I love Hamlet. It’s my favourite piece of literature. So when I was going through a set of old lists I’d made and saw the name Horatio I had to stop. The list in question is a “Top 5 fictional characters I’d like to have dinner with”.

Along with Horatio I had written Bruce Wayne, Indiana Jones, Jesse Custer and Oliver Queen on the list. But to be honest, as much as I love The Batman, I think being able to sit down and have Horatio tell his version of Hamlet’s tale would be the most satisfying.

I would ask him about his friend. Was he really smart enough to have a method to his madness, or did he fly by the seat of his pants.

Also, did he really love Ophelia, or was he just trying to get her into bed?

I have a feeling that Prince Hamlet had his share of lovers while he was away at school. Perhaps not all women, but that’s beside the point.

I want to hear the graveyard story from someone who wasn’t losing his mind. And does he really think that the skull was that of the jester?

I also want to know what it was like before and after the whole thing went down. What was the Prince like before he started wearing black? What was the kingdom like in the aftermath?

And I can only imagine how riveting the finale was. The deception and fighting and hate and revenge and death. I can see myself sitting with my mouth hanging open and my eyes wide.

All in all I know this is a pretty ridiculous proposition, but I thought it through anyway.

Who would you have over for a chat? The Batman himself, Lois Lane, Han Solo or someone else… Let the world know!
