I Need New Shoes – True Story

My new office is in a great location. It’s in the heart of Toronto’s Fashion District. It’s located close to pubs and restaurants. It’s awesome.

It’s also only about a 30 minute walk from my apartment. And because of that I have walked to and from work every day so far. Some days have been rainy, but I’ve taken the umbrella. Some days have been hot, but I have been able to avoid getting gross and sweaty. And regardless of the weather, every day has been a good walk.

I get to people watch (which I love) and I see folks rushing to work in the morning or to the dry cleaner on the way home. I see the same couple in almost the same spot every morning, the girl rocking some very bright fuscia shoes. And I see people with their dogs in the park at about 8:30 playing and doing their thing. It’s all the good things about walking in the city. All on my route.

The only downside is this, I don’t have any good walking shoes. I have a pair of dress shoes that are falling apart, so I haven’t tried them. I have a pair of low cut Doc Martins which are comfortable enough, but a little clunky on a hot day. I have deck shoes that are so worn out that my heels hurt after the walk. And I have my flip-flops, which I love, but they aren’t really that great for a lot of walking.

So, I’ve decided that I need new shoes. But I don’t know what to get. We are very casual at work. Like jeans and t-shirts and flip-flops casual. So I can get casual shoes. Do I get the soccer style kicks that I’ve wanted for some time? Or how about some Chucks for days when I wear jeans or other long pants? Hmmm or skate shoes, they’re still kinda popular, yes? Or cross trainers? Or basketball shoes? Or new deck shoes?

The choices are many. The budget will be limited. The total pairs bought will probably be 2, 1 at first. And I don’t know which to get.

But this I do know, I love the walk, and I need new shoes.
