Welcome to The Abbott of Parkdale
Welcome to The Abbott of Parkdale. The neighbourhood’s newest cafe at 99 Spencer Ave. (King St. West & Spencer Ave.) Open only recently, The Abbott already find itself slinging coffee and snacks for the locals and passers by alike. And it does so with an atmosphere that makes you want to keep coming back.
Yes it’s true that this sweet little hideaway is only steps from my front door and that is how it caught my eye. However, that’s not what has me becoming a regular customer. I will (at the risk of being gushy) tell you that it’s the look, feel, style and attitude that are getting customers invested in this new caffeine hot spot. Also, the coffee, tea, lattes, cookies, biscotti and muffins are all worthy of the change in your pocket.
The Abbott offers everything that you’re looking for in a 21st century coffee shop.

Side note: They even have sweet buttons at the cash that are free to a good home or jacket or bag!
Afternoons spent at The Abbott offer much sweet sunlight through the huge west facing front windows, which is always a plus. It’s also a great place to sit and answer emails, do the crossword, work on your latest screenplay or chit-chat with friends. Have I mentioned that I’m digging on this place? Because I most certainly am.
In a Starbucks/Second Cup dominated market this small, original cafe is making people feel welcome and valued as customers and members of the community. And in the emerging neighbourhood of Parkdale that is a commitment worth celebrating.
My very favourite thing about The Abbott may be the decor. The small round tables are great for a laptop, newspaper or notebook for 1 coffee drinker and they are perfect for 2 java addicts to sit and catch up. Meanwhile, the long table will seat 8 to 10 comfortably for those days when everyone wants to come for their coffee all at once. On the shelves and walls you’ll find relics of the past including archived documents from the neighbourhood and gorgeous/eclectic antiques that will keep your eyes roaming for longer than you think.
The Abbott of Parkdale may be small but it is the real deal. Trust me. You want to come here and visit and enjoy the coffee as well as the ambiance. And you want to let me know when you do so I can join you!

Well done sir. Clearly, you’ve found your new watering hole. Any chance this review was a paying gig? If so, buy an extra cup of coffee on my dime to prove your review did the trick. I’ll retunr the favor next time you make your way to Ottawa.
Not a paying gig as of now – just a local coffee stop I’d love to see become successful. I do have a pitch in to them with a plan to help them achieve some of that success though.
The Abbott is on FourSquare – check in and tell the world that you are supporting Parkdale business and development!
Also, you can contact The Abbott via email – coffee@theabbott.ca – tell them what you dig about the space and product and the idea of me working with them!
Word is that The Abbott is looking for a Barista – check it out if you’re in the neighbourhood! http://bit.ly/hT0PQ1
