Help Make A Difference This Summer, Please!
Hello boys and girls – I know that we are just now starting to embrace Spring and celebrate the fact that we are out of the cold and into the green and warm and happy. But the thing is, we can’t be in Spring forever, Summer will follow shortly. And this Summer I want to help make a difference.
I have been overwhelmed with the way that people I know have helped causes close to their hearts in the last few months. From HoHoTO to the efforts to help the people of Japan and most recently A Gutsy Affair in support of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of Canada I have been amazed and inspired by each and every one. Because of this amazement and inspiration I have decided to move forward with the planning stages of a small fundraiser that I started thinking about earlier this year.
In fact, I have the boys behind #WhatTheHashtag to thank for pushing my mind into gear. It was after the launch event at Loft 404 that I seriously started thinking about putting together an opportunity to bring people together to help support a cause near to my heart. Now, because I am a simple man with simple plans I see no reason to do this thing any different. I want everyone and their brother or sister or niece or nephew or cousin to be able to participate.
With all of that said, I think it’s only fair now that I tell you what I’m planning. This Summer I plan on inviting each and every one of you to come and join me at a Soccer pitch in Toronto to raise money in support of Jumpstart. It will be light, easy, laid back and fun. Bring your kids and neighbours and friends and family. Everyone is welcome. Everyone can help. Donate as much as you can to the cause and join us. I’m not in the business of excluding anyone who wants to be part of the solution.
If you haven’t heard of Jumpstart you can click here to visit their site OR I can tell you a little bit here. Jumpstart is a charity foundation created and run by Canadian Tire to help give children in Canada the opportunity to participate in athletic activities when they otherwise wouldn’t have that chance. It’s something that I believe as much as anything else in this world. Every child deserves the chance to play.
There are a few steps that need to come together in the coming weeks so that we can make this fundraising effort a reality.
1. We need a date, a day this Summer that we think the greatest and most giving people in Toronto and the surrounding area are going to be able to come and hangout for a few hours.
2. We need a location: a soccer pitch, school yard, public park, or HUGE backyard that we can kick a ball and run around in.
3. And lastly we need a name. Think about something that we can hashtag on Twitter. Something catchy. Something fun. Something that represents what we’re trying to do here. Leave them here in the comment section or Tweet me your suggestion and I’ll paste them in the comment section so that everyone can see them as we lead up to a decision.
Your suggestions are all welcome for all three of the things on the list. That’s because it is only going to be with your love, support, suggestions and participation that this thing will be a success. This isn’t about me. It’s about all of us coming together to help. I believe in that.
You guys never, ever let me down when it comes to being Awesome. And I know that you’re not going to start now. Thank you all for your support and high fives.

Methinks perhaps #pitchinTO?
I dig it! my first suggestion for the list is #KickinitTO
Can’t think of a name at the moment, but if you need a photographer to capture the event, let me know!
That would be awesome! I’ll let you know when more details pop up!
