Goodbye To Jack Layton, A Great Canadian
Dear Readers,
Like many Canadians, I have been made sad today by the news of Jack Layton’s passing.
While I have never voted for an NDP candidate in a federal election I have always had great respect for Mr. Layton as the leader of his party. I also liked the man.
I remember when Mr. Layton took over the leadership of the NDP and following along as he and his team changed the direction and momentum of the party.
His genuine desire for change was visible in his words and actions. He was a champion for the rights of the poor, sick, disrespected and forgotten. He was a believer and bringer of hope.
Side note: Jack Layton also had a great moustache.
It is my wish – as it was his – that the hope he brought to the country will continue.
There has been a lot of talk about action in the memory of Jack Layton. A lot of talk about young Canadians becoming more involved in politics because of the example that Jack Layton set. I truly hope those words become actions.
Whether or not you agreed with his tactics, politics or views – it is hard not to agree that Mr. Layton was a caring humanitarian, a dedicated politician and a great Canadian.
I hope, years from now, that is what we remember.
May you rest in peace Jack. My thoughts and prayers are with your friends and family all over this country and the world.

Short, sweet, and to the point.
An excellent post.
Thank you very much shanno
When I was studying photojournalism, I, as well as a lot of other fellow students, interviewed Jack Layton. I thought it was really nice that he’d make the time for us and our school newspaper.
He totally seemed like the guy who would make time for anyone. There wasn’t a person or Canadian that was more important than any other.
Very well written! I hope you don’t mind if I share.
Please feel free to share – he was a great man and deserves to be remembered by anyone in any way that we can.
Great post, Josh. The political scene won’t be the same.
The Canadian political system has lost a great leader and a dedicated participant… there’s a lot of slack to be picked up.
