Christmas and the NBA are Coming!

Christmas is coming – and so is the NBA season.

It’s been a long and arduous process for basketball fans as the NBA lockout has kept us away from arenas and TVs for what should have been the first month of the season.

But now it looks like we only have 4 weeks to wait until the ball will officially be tipped off on Christmas Day 2011. I’m a very excited and happy boy.

Now, as a Toronto Raptors fan I will admit that I am not excited about the season because I think that the team is going to win the NBA championship. In fact, I don’t even expect them to be very good. In what will be a 66 game regular season I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t win more than 15 games.

The team is in flux. The organization has holes to fill and the best way for a rebuild will be through the draft.

But even still, as a sports fan and a basketball fan, I am ready for ball.
Players like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwight Howard and Chris Paul will all want to prove that they still have it. That the layoff didn’t hurt them. And I expect that there will be some amazing performances and games early in the season.

Here are my early, early predictions – The Miami Heat will have a good season because their superstars will be able to carry the load against teams that haven’t had a chance to gel. The Los Angeles Lakers will be good in the west as lead by Kobe and Pau Gasol. The Chicago Bulls will be feisty in the east and challenge the Heat, just like they did last season. And the Dallas Mavericks will be the toughest test in the west for the Lakers.

While it isn’t very adventurous to say that I think the Lakers will be in The Finals, I will go out on a limb and say that the Bulls will represent the east.

There are 28 days left before the 2011-2012 NBA season starts. I think that I might even create an Advent type calendar for the countdown.

I hope you’re as excited as I am!
