2012 Toronto Blue Jays Home Opener – Game On!
So last night it all started again. The seats were full. The players were on the field and the umpire yelled “Play Ball!”
And it was awesome!
I am so very happy that we were able to get seats up in the 500 level to watch the game and take in the pomp and circumstance that came along with it. We saw Jose Bautista pick up his Silver Slugger Award, we got choked up as the Blue Jays paid tribute to 2 fallen young baseball players from PEI, we witnessed 2 pretty awesome “stunts” down in the 100 level during the National Anthems and we cheered as loud as we could for the introduction of the 2012 Toronto Blue Jays roster and starting line-up!
The game itself was pretty great. There were exciting defensive plays turned in by Colby Rasmus in centrefield, Adam Lind at 1st and a sweet double play turned in by Yunel Escobar and Kelly Johnson. There were great swings of the bat with a triple from Colby, an rbi single from Edwin Encarnacion and bullets that turned into outs from other Jays.
And then there was the 9th inning. New closer (and 1 of the most important parts of this roster as per my season preview) Sergio Santos had a ton of trouble after giving up a lead-off double to Dustin Pedroia. He was in the dirt, he was out of the zone and he blew his 2nd save of the season and took the loss.
The boos from the bleachers may be premature considering it was only game 2… but that’s 2 blown saves and we are trying to get better in a department that was awful last year.
In the end I was disappointed that we lost. But buoyed by the enthusiasm of the city and fans and the youth and talent of the team that AA has out on the field.
If you weren’t able to make it to the ball park last night we want to make you feel like you were there.
We’ve got 2 extra rally towels, magnetic schedules and some early 90s baseball cards that we want to give to 2 Blue Jays fans in Toronto.
All you’ve got to do is comment here on the blog and let me know what you’re excited about this season and you’re in!

Oh Jessica… you’ve got to stop relying on the Leafs to bring you satisfaction.
I think we have a team here in Houston….or we use to…..
Keep an eye on Brett Wallace at 1st base. He’s the real deal!
We do have a couple good prospects….I hope the worst s behind us…
