Is Toronto Ready For Linsanity?!
Reports have surfaced on the internets that the Toronto Raptors have a new Plan B in their offseason point guard search…
Jeremy Lin.
That’s right, the Harvard educated, wonder kid is apparently on Bryan Colangelo’s radar. However, he is Plan B and I don’t think it’s likely even in that case.
For Colangelo and 99.9% (or more) of Raptors fans, Steve Nash is Plan A/Option #1/The One.
I am not part of the 0.01%.
It’s quite a comparison, Lin vs. Nash. Both can run the 7-second O. Both are headline worthy. Both would be a huge draw at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
Nash as Canada’s son. Lin representing Toronto’s Asian (especially the Chinese and Taiwanese) community.
Thinking about it gives me chills.
However, Lin isn’t the veteran presence that a young Raptors team needs. He isn’t proven. He may not even want to come to Toronto. He’s also a restricted free agent which makes him 1 degree more unlikely.
Meanwhile, I can draw a great “it could happen” storyline for Steve Nash…
Recently named the General Manager of Team Canada’s Men’s Basketball program, Nash may want to set up a home base in Toronto to work with the team. Nash also (reportedly) has a good relationship with Bryan Colangelo and could use his last player contract to mentor young players on the floor and in turn be mentored in the front office world. And then when Nash finally retires as a player he can transition into the Raptors head office and take the reigns.
It could happen.
Either way, it could be an interesting summer for the Raps. 2011 draft pick (5th overall) Jonas Valančiūnas is coming. Another top 10 pick is coming. And it looks like we’re going to have a new point guard.
