The Green Arrow – Coming to TV on CW!

Finally, boys and girls, we have The Green Arrow in prime time!

After the success of Smallville and all of the comic book movies that have come out in the last few years, CW has put together a series for the Emerald Archer. And I am excited for Arrow!

If you aren’t familiar with The Green Arrow, I understand.

(Check out the video preview at the bottom of the post)

Oliver Queen has never been the most popular of the DC Universe cast. He’s kind of like The Batman in that he’s a playboy billionaire with no super powers but a desire to clean up the streets and do good.

He’s also like Robin Hood as he wears a green hood and uses a bow and arrow and fights against the corrupt upper echelon of society of which he is a member – minus the whole corrupt thing of course.

Here’s what I love about The Green Arrow and Oliver Queen. Queen is a faulted man. Imperfect. Prone to errors in judgement and action. Trying to do the right thing but always agonizing over the things that he has done to hurt the people that he cares about. He’s a flawed hero in a world where for a long time heroes were made to look infallible. I can identify with Ollie. Not in the green hood and bow and arrow or rich and influential ways… but as a flawed dude with a desire to do good even though sometimes I do bad.

The new CW series (available on CTV 2 in Canada) will premiere on October 10 and air Wednesdays at 8pm. Stephen Amell (Heartland, Private Practice, Hung) will star as Oliver Queen while Katie Cassidy (7th Heaven, Supernatural, Gossip Girl) will play object of affection Laurel Lance with (via wiki) Kelly Hu (CSI:NY, The Spectacular Spider-Man, The Vampire Diaries) as bad girl China White.

As I said, I’m excited. Ever since I was first introduced to Ollie, after Kevin Smith brought him back to life in comic books, I’ve been a big fan and advocate. And now I hope there will be a lot more fans pushing for more great Green Arrow content. If this series is half as successful as Smallville I will be a happy, happy boy.

Note: Thank you to CTV 2 for bringing Arrow to Canada!

Get ready, the fun starts soon!

This is part of the synopsis for Arrow from CWTV.com:
After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory.
