I Want Crazy: Hunter Hayes at Boots & Hearts 2014

Hunter Hayes Boots and Hearts 2014 HeaderOpening for a major act like Blake Shelton seems like it could be a little intimidating – but if that’s the case, Hunter Hayes didn’t show it.

He was humble and gracious and thankful for the crowd that was already at least 20,000 strong to see him perform as the sun went down on a great Sunday at Boots & Hearts 2014, and the audience showed him just how big of a star he is, and is going to be throughout his set.

Hunter Hayes Guitar Singing Boots and Hearts 2014From the moment he started his set with Storyline, Hunter’s youth, energy and enthusiasm were on display as he jumped up and down, spun in circles, ran out to the front of the stage and did everything he could to put on the kind of show he really, really wanted to. The set moved along with Wild Card, Secret Love and big hit, Somebody’s Heartbreak, which had a lot of people singing and dancing in the last bit of sunshine.

Note: This kid can play. Yes, he’s a great singer who is engaged with the crowd. But man can he play his guitars. On both the acoustic and at least 3 electric guitars he showed his skill and played hard, loud and really, really well.

Hunter Hayes Guitar Tall Boots and Hearts 2014Hayes slowed down the set as told the crowd he wanted to sing them the favourite song he’s written, Invisible. He dedicated the song to anyone who ever felt like an outcast or alone at any time in their life. It was sweet and easy to tell that he meant it.

The last 6 songs of the set had the crowd All-In with Everybody’s Got Somebody But Me, a cover of One Republic’s Counting Stars, Storm Warning, Wanted (which was amazing with just a piano and the crowd singing along), Light Me Up, and a big finale with I Want Crazy.

Hunter Hayes is a young man with a bright future. He’s come a long way from playing a tiny accordion on stage with Hank Williams Jr. when he was 4… the stage is all his now – and it will be for a long time to come.
