Markham Irish Women’s Rugby Club Makes the Finals!
I spent my Saturday afternoon with the Markham Irish Senior Women’s Rugby Club. Today was a pretty big deal for them. They were fighting for a spot in the finals against the Peterborough Pagans and fight they did! It was a good game with plenty of action that ended with a 40-22 decision for the Irish. They’ll fight to defend their 2013 title next Saturday, at home, on the pitch at Fletcher’s Fields in Markham.
Before they play for the title they’ll be holding a fundraiser. Monday night at Main’s Mansion. There will be a raffle, door prizes, sports trivia, a 50/50 draw and live music. Local bands Samara York, The Sleeperz and Kevin Pullen will all be performing. Tickets are $20, they include a buffet and will be available at the door. All funds raised go towards helping the club cover costs for new uniforms, travel and to defray the costs for new club members. Markham Today did a great interview with Dallas Price you can see it here.
Today’s game was exciting. If you have any doubt about how hard these ladies play, have a look at the photos.
