All Kinds of Crazy: Livy Jeanne live at the 2015 CNE!
When good people are talented people, you want to pull for them… that’s the case with Alberta girl and country singer/songwriter Livy Jeanne.
After catching Livy on stage in Ajax at Steak Stock, seeing her all over the place at Boots & Hearts 2015, and listening to her new album and previous EPs online – we finally got the chance to sit down and catch up with her at the 2015 CNE’s Northern Comfort Saloon.
It’s been a crazy summer for Livy Jeanne so far, with performances at Cavendish Beach, Steak Stock, her Boots & Hearts interview work for Country Voice, the CNE, and upcoming shows at Lucknow Music in the Fields and Canadian Country Music Awards week in Halifax still to come before mid-September. And when that’s all done she tells us that it’s time to head back down to Nashville to write new music with some friends that she’s made and written with in the past + some new co-writes that she’s excited for as well.
It’s an exciting thought, because after 2 EPs (Under the Radar & We Are The Young) Livy’s full length debut, Dashboard Renegade, was released in July with 11 tracks and a whole lot of fun. If she can harness that again to put together another album, country music fans are going to be in for a treat.
We asked Livy about Boots & Hearts and if there was a highlight of the weekend for her, and without hesitation she told us that meeting Thomas Rhett was #1. The biggest factor? Bonding over their shared love of Diet Coke and Sour Patch Kids… love it! It doesn’t hurt that Rhett is a super talented dude whose writing and performing are going to make him a superstar.
On stage Tuesday night Livy did a fantastic job of putting on her own show. After an unfortunate sound system delay, she took the stage with her band and gave us a mix of originals and covers – including a great little medley that included I Want You Back, Shook Me All Night Long, That Don’t Impress Me Much, Hot and Cold, and Royals. The set opened with Dashboard Renegades which sounded great with the band behind her, and continued with a clear 90s influence that showed her age, but also her chops. Livy’s range, from low to high, is impressive and caught us unprepared.
Livy Jeanne needs to be added to the list of young Canadian women making noise in country music. When we’re talking about Jess Moskaluke, Kira Isabella, MacKenzie Porter, and Leah Daniels, we need to be talking about Livy too.
While we were hanging out backstage we asked Livy about recording a duet, and which Canadian dudes she would pick to play with – her 1st choice… Hedley, which we weren’t expecting, but Livy thinks very highly of their talent and songwriting. The next 2 names came country with Dallas Smith and Jordan McIntosh. And when we asked her who she’d love to tour with, it was Jordan again with either Dallas or Kira on the bill with them.
Note: We’re not going to tell tales or repeat stories, but after our sit down we really want to hang out with Livy and Jordan. Anywhere, any time, for any reason. It sounds like a really good time!
Livy Jeanne is a Canadian country girl who writes and sings country music, she’s got a killer voice, the drive to keep pushing forward, and an entire career ahead of her.
Check out the video we caught of Livy playing Charli XCX’s Boom Clap at the Canadian National Exhibition’s Northern Comfort Saloon – and then watch the video for Dashboard Renegade’s first single, All Kinds of Crazy, which was shot in June and is now in rotation on CMT Canada.
Big thanks to Livy for hanging out, referencing our interview during her show, and putting on the kind of entertaining set that’s going to make her new fans and keep us coming back for more.
