Burn The Plan: Good Lovelies and Tim Chaisson at the Winter Garden Theatre
On a chilly fall Friday in Toronto, a touch of the east coast and a boat load of harmonies came to the Winter Garden Theatre on Yonge Street.
Juno award winners the Good Lovelies headlined the show, a celebration of their latest release Burn The Plan (May 2015) and a realization of a dream to play the gorgeous theatre in Ontario’s capital. And as beautiful as the theatre is (and it is, as remarked by many people in the audience and opener Tim Chaisson), the sounds of Kerri Ough, Sue Passmore, and Caroline Brooks were equally as impressive. In all honesty, the harmonies when the girls hum together matches the best that many acts can provide.
The 12 song set the Good Lovelies played Friday offered a mix of tracks from Burn The Plan and their earlier releases, with an Alison Krauss/Robert Plant cover thrown in for good measure.
Note: Before we get any deeper, let’s not forget that Tim Chaisson was charming and witty and talented in his own right as the show’s opening act. The PEI native is also celebrating a 2015 release, Lost In Light, and did a great job with the help of his cousin Koady of sharing some of those new tracks. The guitar, fiddle, bass, banjo performance was a stripped down and a great way to hear songs like Animal, Miss Saying Goodbye, Bad On Me, Goodbye July, and Cajun Moon, which comes with a brief history lesson of the Acadian of the mid-1700’s.
Much love to Tim for being friendly and awesome. He’s a good Maritimer and hockey fan who just played along with our NHL season preview. We can’t wait to catch up again soon.
Back to the ladies. With their own mix of story-telling (loved the Fred Penner shout outs) and witty exchanges with each other and their bass player (hi Steve), the Good Lovelies held the audience in their hands as they moved from song to song and showed off their well oiled machine of a show.

It was a special treat to see these talented women share their voices and songs with a room full of people excited to hear them. It’s quite easy to see that the last 9 years have been well spent, and we’re very much hoping that the next 9 years are just as successful and bring just as many new fans.
