Boots & Hearts 2016 Preview: Tim McGraw Top 5

3

With the announcement of Tim McGraw as one of the first two headliners added to the 2016 Boots and Hearts lineup we’re thinking about how lucky we are to get a 2nd chance to see maybe the biggest male country star of a generation.

Tim McGraw Boots and Hearts 2016 Profile FeatureMcGraw headlined Friday night of Boots & Hearts year 1 (2012), but we weren’t there to see it – which has haunted us ever since. And now that we’re getting another chance to see Mr. McGraw for the first time, we’re looking back at some of the man’s biggest hits and doing our best to pick our favourites for a Top 5 list.

Now, we know that no matter which 5 songs we pick someone out there is going to be disappointed. The dude has 10 #1 albums and 25 #1 singles, so what we’re trying to accomplish here is nearly impossible.

But we’re going to try.

Leave a comment to tell us what your favourite Tim McGraw song is, and how badly you want to see him sing it live at Boots & Hearts 2016. #BH5

in no particular order…

Live Like You Were Dying

Just a few days ago Tim McGraw threw out the first pitch at Citi Field to honour his late father and former New York Met, Tug. Watch this video, listen to the message in this song, and then remember the story of Tug getting sick.

Don’t Take The Girl

Maybe one of the saddest songs we know, Don’t Take The Girl is heartbreaking and wonderful. It will rip at you from the inside out while you sing along with all the emotion that we love country music for bringing to us.

Something Like That (BBQ Stain)

This is a hit that nearly everyone loves, and nearly everyone forgets the name of. It will forever be known as the BBQ stain song, and that’s fine – as long as we all get to keep singing along whenever we hear it.

Shotgun Rider

Maybe there’s a little recency bias here, but we’ll stand by the choice. Shotgun Rider is a great song, fun to sing along with, and we really, really hope that Tim McGraw sings it at Boots & Hearts 2016.

Everywhere

Released 18 years ago, Everywhere was a big hit, and for good reason. This song is bittersweet in its message and tells the kind of story that country music loves. There’s an unrequited love that nearly everyone has felt in their life, and it’s right there in a song.

Bonus: It’s Your Love w/ Faith Hill

We couldn’t do this post without including at least 1 of the HUGE duets Tim has done with Faith. And when it came time to choose, It’s Your Love felt like the natural choice. Also from 1997 (a very good year for McGraw) this song is one of our all-time favourites.
