The Katherines – Video Release – Primitive
The Katherines are a Vancouver based female pop trio, but this isn’t your typical pop. Primitive has a dark sultry feel to it and while I’m sure the video plays a big role in that, it made me want to know more about the band. So… here we go!
The Katherines are sisters Kate and Lauren Kurdyak, along with Kate’s life long friend Kaitlyn Hansen-Boucher, the two met in preschool. They’re backed by Liam McKee Wright on guitar, Mike Young on bass, Jared Manierka on keys and Nik Pesut on drums. Recording on 604 Records they’ve joined a very successful artist roster and I think we’re going to be hearing a lot of them on the radio. Primitive is the band’s third single (unless you count 604 Records: Dear Santa: Santa Claus is Coming to Town) and it’s by far the darkest.
The video is directed by Stephano Barberis, whose name keeps popping up in my social media feeds lately, Primitive is an interesting video that marries up amazingly with the music. This song was co-written by Steve Bays who you may know from Hot, Hot Heat and Mounties and Charlie Kerr from JPNSGRLS and the collaboration brings a different feel to the trio’s sound.
While there are currently no tour dates listed on their website, we hope that changes soon and that Toronto is on their radar. Maybe we’ll see them at Canadian Music Week or who knows, maybe even at WayHome. I like what I see and hear and can’t wait to check them out live.
