Steal Your Heart: Jordan McIntosh Album Review and Q&A

Jordan McIntosh

We had a chance to sit down for coffee this morning with Jordan McIntosh and talk about Steal Your Heart, the upcoming festival season and some other fun stuff.

Our thoughts on the new album? We love it, but is it really a debut? The answer is yes and it seems like that’s surprising to me and to some of Jordan’s fans. Jordan said “it’s funny because fans are tweeting saying ‘your new album’ but there hasn’t been an old album.”

There have been singles released but this is, in fact, Jordan’s first full-length album. Three years in the making, Steal Your Heart has an upbeat feel, and if you’re reading liner notes, plenty of talented people worked hard on this album.

If we’re picking favourites I have to go with the title track but it’s a close second with the Story of My Life duet with George Canyon and, there isn’t a single track I hit the skip button on. Nicely done Jordan, it was worth the wait.

Check out the Q&A from our conversation with Jordan!

Q: We’ve been listening to the album, and really like it. How does it feel having it finished and ready to go out to the world?

A: Jordan let us know he’s been working on the album for over three years so he’s very excited for it finally to be out.

Q: Can you tell us what it was like working with a guy like George Canyon who has been around the country music business.

A: “I’ve been very lucky with the things I’ve been able to do. George, he did a Decade of Hits tour in the fall of 2014 and he was looking for a new up and coming artist to come on the road with him and spread their wings. He was hoping to spread his knowledge and he chose me.”

“He produced some of the songs on the record and he performed on one of them. George chose me, and now he’s a great friend of mine. He’s like a father figure, like an uncle. He’s always checking up and teaching me things. So far it’s been one of the best learning experiences I’ve ever had.”

Q: You get a lot of love online, your social media communities are awesome with interaction – how important is that to your career and what you do?

A: “Online has been a very big part of my fans and my career so far. I think my YouTube channel has 1.3 million views. I’m very interactive with the fans and they’re very interactive with me on Twitter and Snapchat and Instagram. I know my fans, they’re living in the social media age. I love it. Unless it’s face to face, this is the next best thing.”

Q: We saw you up on the Boots & Hearts stage on 2014, and now you’re coming back for year 2 at the new venue. Are you excited to be coming back to such a huge Ontario festival?

A: “I’m excited to be back and I’m really excited about the new location.”

Q: Is there anyone you’re really excited to see while you’re there?

A: “Oh, that’s so hard. They’ve got so many people coming. So many huge artists and so many of the new up and coming artists. I’m very excited about Cam. Her song, Burning House I covered on the Brett Kissel tour and it went over so well. I love that song. I’m excited to see her. I think Sam Hunt, I’m a big Sam Hunt fan, we’ve met a few times, it’s cool to see familiar faces in that world. It’s a great weekend.”

Q: Are you sticking around for the whole weekend?

A: “No. I’ll only be there Sunday, I’m not sure who else is there Sunday. I was able to do that in 2014. My family was there and I hung out all weekend. It was one of the best, one of my favourite festivals to perform at and to be at.”

Q: When we hung out with Livy Jeanne last summer she told us that you 2 have the most fun together every time you hang out. With a yes or no answer (so we don’t get anyone in trouble) can you tell us if you have stories about Livy that are too hilarious to print?

A: “Livy is fun! The first tour I ever did was Brett Kissel and One More Girl did a co-headlining tour. Livy was part of the opening act package with me. So we’d travel in the van together, sometimes share a hotel room. We really got to know each other so she’s a really good friend of mine. She’s just a ball of energy. We’ve had some really fun moments.”

Q: The CMAO nominations just came out… have you thought about seeing your name on the list next year for your work on Steal Your Heart?

A: “It sure would be really nice to see it on the list next year but we’ll have to wait and see.”

Last words from Jordan… Check out the record and come see me at Boots & Hearts!

Jordan’s debut album Steal Your Heart will be available in stores and online April 15th.
