CMW 2016 Spotlight: The Dead Love at the Aussie BBQ!

Before Canadian Music Week 2016 wrapped we hit the Aussie BBQ at The Horseshoe and hung out with the boys from The Dead Love.

With the sun out we sat on the patio out front on Queen Street West to talk about the band, new music, drinks, CMW, Toronto and more – and then we went inside, had some bbq sausage and watched The Dead Love hit the stage to play for friends and fans and industry on day 6 of a busy, busy week of music.

The Dead Love CMW 2016 HorseshoeThe first thing we asked Clint, Stevie and Miles, was how the Toronto crowds had been during the week, and the boys made it clear that they were not disappointed. They also pointed out that the crowds in Quebec had been awesome in shows leading up to CMW… but it was a bit of a culture shock coming to Canada and going directly to the french language.

The CMW crowd at the BBQ also gave it up for the boys with a big pop and a quick gathering at the front of the stage to get a closer look and a louder listen to the grungy rock coming at them.

Aside from the crowds, we asked what their favourite things about Toronto had been on the trip, and their short answer was Everything! Their longer answer rambled a little bit, but included the people and food and drinks and girls… and they’re hoping to be back for more.

In fact, their new album is scheduled to come out this fall, and after a tour at home in Australia, The Dead Love are hoping to come to Canada to tour and get some ears on their new music. Keep an eye out for those dates, because after seeing them in a 4:15 afternoon slot, we can only imagine what they’d be like on a nighttime stage.

The Dead Love CMW 2016 HorseshoeWastelands, the new single from The Dead Love has already been getting some great love from rock and roll fans. It’s a throwback to 90s grunge, the rock and roll that was loved by an entire generation of fans… and when they hopped up on stage we saw that first hand. The sound was instantly reminiscent of Seattle and all of the classics that came from the era.

When we were sitting with Stevie, Clint, and Miles they told us that they didn’t come all the way to Canada to suck… mission accomplished.

The last thing we asked the boys, before they headed inside to get ready to play, was what drinks they’d been loving throughout the week, because we’d heard a rumor that they enjoyed a nice cold beverage. We didn’t get a consensus answer, but the top 3 were Whiskey, Beer, and Caesars – which we told them to brag about when they got home… you know, because Canada!

The Dead Love are Stevie Knight, Clint Ossington, and Miles Cochrane. They call Sydney Australia home and they were a heap of fun, they played loud and hard with a polished edge, and they made the most of their time in Canada before they headed home to get that new album ready. We can’t wait to hear it, and we hope we’ll see you all there with us – rocking out!
