Out On The Weekend: Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats at WayHome 2016!
In the middle of a sun and sweat drenched afternoon at WayHome day 1, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats hit the WayBright stage and put on a damn show!
As the band hit their first notes the crowd starting cheering and packing in closer to the stage, and when Nathaniel Rateliff shimmied and danced his way out onto the the stage, the cheers got louder and everyone got ready to party.
And a party it was. With horns, keys, guitars, deep bass, and drums to keep everyone in line, the musicianship of The Night Sweats was on full display at WayHome. In fact, one of the biggest pops of the set came during a sweet little saxophone solo in the middle of We’ve Got The Whole Night Left To Lose.
Note: Nathaniel Rateliff and the band were very appreciative of the chance to come play in Canada… and dropped a little anti-Trump message on stage. In fact, they proposed moving up here and building our own wall to “keep that fucker out”. Everyone cheered.
There’s something very cool about the sound and vibe that Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats bring to their set. The soul and gospel sounds in their rock and roll have a hand clapping, swaying, revival feel – and we dig it. It’s also what makes the band something special.
We also got our first goosebump moment of the festival when the band finished the set with S.O.B. It was the combination of the anticipation for the song + the crowd reaction + the live element, that gave the moment something a little more than just the regular love we feel for festival music.
All said and done, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats did exactly what we hoped for. They danced, made us dance, gave a sing along vibe, and even made us forget it was so damn hot in the middle of a sunny day.
When you get the chance to see them live – take it. I promise you won’t regret it.
