2018 Concert For Love & Acceptance Announcement
On Thursday, June 7 at Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, glaad and Ty Herndon will present the 2018 Concert for Love & Acceptance, hosted by CMT’s Cody Alan.
Including Herndon, six country music artists will perform at the concert, showing their support, love, and acceptance for all. And while the lineup may be small in size (for now), it certainly packs in the talent!
Herndon, who came out in 2014, has been hosting the event since 2015 and has been a beacon of hope for the LGBTQ community who count themselves as country music artists and fans. With three #1 singles and three more that reached the Top 10, Herndon holds a reputation of talent and success.
Joining the Living In A Moment singer, will be Terri Clark, the Canadian country music superstar and Grand Ole Opry member. Clark knows chart success as well with five #1 hits on the Canadian country charts, as well as two #1 singles on the US charts (You’re Easy On The Eyes and Girls Lie Too), and eight more that climbed into the Top 10. She is the only Canadian female member of the Opry, and with three Female Artist of the Year and four Fans’ Choice Awards from the Canadian Country Music Association, it’s easy to see that she has had a Hall of Fame worthy career, and brings star power wherever she goes.
Another name that country fans will recognize at the Concert for Love & Acceptance is Michael Ray. The Florida native hit #1 on the charts with his debut single, Kiss You In The Morning. He also got to #2 with Think A Little Less, and has fans hoping that a follow-up to his self-titled 2015 debut album is on the way.
We’re also excited to see Cassadee Pope on this lineup. The winner of The Voice season 3 has been making music for years, but fans have been waiting since 2013 for an album to drop from the rising country star. We’ve seen her live, we can confirm that she’s as talented as she looks on TV, and this another chance for her to show that for a great cause.
But for as much talent that will be at the Concert for Love & Acceptance this June, the cause is even more exciting and important.
Unfortunately, the country music community has not historically been seen as friendly or accepting to the LGBTQ community. But, here we are in 2018, and while there is still unrest and divisiveness in the country world and beyond, we have hope.
We have hope that events like this, and the voices of the artists included, can help to build a wider and stronger bridge between country music and the LGBTQ community and their allies.
