Shawn Austin, Debut Album Review

Shawn Austin Album Review Feature

Shawn Austin’s country music career is taking off, and the release of his debut EP is only going to push him higher!

The Vancouver native has already put himself on the Canadian country music map with his first Top 10 single, Paradise Found. The follow-up single, Get Me There has more than 800,000 streams on Spotify. And now, with six new songs, including his newest release, You Belong, Shawn is ready for more.

Austin has become known for his smooth and sultry, laid-back sound, and on this new collection of songs, he shows it off throughout. But don’t let a description like ‘laid-back’ fool you, there’s a lot of power in Shawn’s voice and his performances on this album too. Hell, Dallas Smith noticed that power the first time he heard it.

“I came across Shawn’s powerhouse voice when a close friend (and Shawn’s co-manager, Barry Jorgens) sent me the music demo Shawn was working on, and it was an instant… who the hell is that moment.” – Dallas Smith

In Your Dreams, the second song on the EP is an excellent outlet for Shawn’s power. It’s also a wicked track that tells the less told country music story of a dude that’s not dreaming for the girl to come back, and in fact, is telling her there’s no shot. We dig it. It’s well written, well produced, and well sung.

While we are sometimes in the predictions business, we aren’t sure which song might come next when it’s time for Shawn to follow-up You Belong with another single. Honestly, there are fantastic choices in Me Without You, Time Alone, and I Can Be Him. Depending on the mood and vibe Shawn and his team decide to go for, they’ve got the goods. And that’s awesome for them, but it does make it hard for us to guess. Too bad for us.

Here’s what we do know: As of right now, You Belong has already been streamed more than 60,000 times on Spotify, all six songs are terrific and make up a great debut EP, and Shawn Austin is a very talented dude.

Those three facts all point to success now and in the future for Shawn Austin. They also confirm that this is EP is a good listen. Hit play, let it repeat a couple of times, and soon you’ll be singing along. Just like us.
