Four In The Morning: Trevor Douglas EP Review

Trevor Douglas Four In The Morning EP Feature

Fort Worth, TX’s Trevor Douglas is ready to release his debut EP to the world, and fans who have been listening to the pop artist’s music since he was introduced to us in the 14th season of American Idol are ready!

Throughout our first listen through Four In The Morning, we were hit with two popstar comparisons, with a third coming later in the session. The first two names that came to mind were Ed Sheeran and Justin Timberlake. The acoustic heavy tracks and lovey sweet and sometimes soft moments on the EP remind us of the super popular hits that Sheeran has been releasing for most of the last decade. And in the moments when things get a little more pop, and Trevor’s voice hits those high notes, thoughts of Timberlake and his range popped into our head.

The third popstar that we thought of when listening to the album was Bruno Mars. The final track on the EP, Dandelions has a Just The Way You Are feel to it, and we are 100% okay with that.

It is important to point out that even with those comparisons and vibes, none of this EP feels like an impersonation of someone else or a copycat recording. With these five songs, the Texas native has offered up a closeup look at his music, his vibe, and his creative vision.

Trevor Douglas put a lot of personal time, energy, and work into the creation of Four In The Morning. With only his laptop and a microphone, he set up shop in the closet of his home and got to it. The songs were all written (or co-written), recorded, produced, and mixed by Douglas, adding another layer of personal investment and attachment to these songs and their release.

With 100,000 followers on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube), we know that there’s an audience ready for Trevor Douglas to share these new songs and offer up a collection of tracks for the first time.

Note: Pressure was released in February 2018 and has racked up more than 100,000 plays across Spotify and YouTube. People are listening.

The final result of Four In The Morning is a set of songs that are grounded in real instrumentation, hook-filled pop choruses, plus Trevor’s distinct mix of acoustic sounds and a synthy-pop style.

Hit play on Pressure off the top and let 20 minutes of pop music from Trevor Douglas glide through your speakers.
