Thanks to Toronto’s The Anti-Queens for taking part in our 5 Quick Questions ’77 Montreal Preview series!

The Anti-Queens have been playing together since 2010. In that time they’ve played some major festivals including Pouzza Fest, NXNE, Indie Week, Canadian Music Week, Beau’s Oktoberfest and many, many shows in Canada and the US. They’ve released two EPs, Grow up/Stay Young and Start Running, and they’re getting ready to release their first full length album on Stomp Records.

The band is Dallas Conte on drums, Taylor Cos on bass and backing vocals, Valerie Knox on lead guitar and backing vocals and Emily Bones on lead vocals and guitar. We caught The Anti-Queens during NXNE 2017 at the NXNE Curator Series – Ian D’Sa (Billy Talent) and we thought “They were loud, they were tight, the songs were honest, they were well rehearsed, in sync and so much fun to watch. This might be the grungiest punk rock/grunge pop I’ve ever heard.”

Their performances are fast, loud and intense and if you haven’t seen them, you’re in for a treat.

Here we go!

5 Quick Questions with The Anti-Queens

Q1) If you’re on a road trip, what’s the one album you can listen to on repeat?

The Anti-Queens) It’s a hard question because we all have slightly different tastes in music. Probably Sing Sing Death House by Distillers or anything by Cher

Q2) Do you have any pre-show rituals?

The Anti-Queens) Stretching, pacing, sweating, eating whatever food is in front of us, smoking, downing copious amounts of monster energy and the free beer of the day.

Q3) What can fans expect from a live performance?

The Anti-Queens) Fans can expect 1000%. High energy rock n roll. And all the sass.

Q4) Is there a band or artist you think people should be paying more attention to?

The Anti-Queens) Yeah of course! Us!!!

Q5) Do you have a favourite thing about ’77 Montreal?

The Anti-Queens) As it is our first time, it’s hard to say. What we think is really cool about 77 is the caliber of bands on the same fest. Little guys and big guys all doing the same thing on the same stage.

BONUS QUESTION) Is there anything you want to share with our readers?

Yes!! We just finished all the ends and odds of our debut album, which we are releasing at the end of the summer on Stomp Records. Tours to follow. It’s gonna be a great year!
