Dean Brody, Boys Album Review
Dean Brody has been busy releasing big singles that have taken over country radio and continued his legacy and standing in the industry, but for the first time since 2016’s Beautiful Freakshow, Brody is back with a new album, Boys.
The 8-song album gets right to the point with upbeat party songs like the #1 single, Can’t Help Myself (with The Reklaws) and the slowed down I’d Go To Jail that will get you right in your heart.
Released as the first album on Brody’s new label, Scurvy Dog Records, Boys isn’t just a new album from the JUNO (2x) and CCMA (17x) award-winning country star. It’s the start of the next chapter in a career that isn’t anywhere close to done yet.
Start your listen now with the title track and a wonderful and beautifully sung duet with Mickey Guyton.
Dean Brody – Boys (ft. Mickey Guyton)
About the title track, Brody says,“I love sharing my experiences through song and am so appreciative of everyone who has joined my musical journey this year, which is why I’m excited to share the next step with you today – especially as this single features the incredible vocals of Mickey Guyton.”
It’s a great start to the album. And the addition of Mickey Guyton’s powerful voice is fantastic. A+.
From there, Boys continues to be a win for Dean Brody. Lightning Bug is as cute and sweet as could be. Can’t Help Myself is a jam and the combination of Brody and The Reklaws gave Canadian country fans something to sing and dance to in a summer where things were upside down and we all needed something fun like that.
I’d Go To Jail is the dad song on the album that girl dads are going to connect to instantly. And dads, if you choke up, that’s okay, let it out and embrace all of those feelings and emotions. But please (from me), don’t be rash and think this song should be a call to arms or to do the polishing your gun when your daughter brings her daughter over.
Stay Up is romantic, sweet, lovely, and ideal for a night under the stars with the one you love after a long day that might not have gone as planned. It’s a song that people are going to slow dance to and sing while they are close and if that’s what Dean Brody was thinking when he wrote the song with Donovan Woods and then recorded it for the album, he nailed it.
And then comes Canadian Summer. The song already went to #1 and set a record for most spins in one week on Canadian country radio. We’re used to songs like this from Brody whose Canadian Girls is an unofficial national anthem. You can add this one to that list.

The album wraps up with Bucket List and Always You. Bucket List is a fun little drinking and social song that brings Brody back to his good-timing self that has always worked for him. It’s playful when the title might suggest otherwise – and to paraphrase Letterkenny’s Dan, ‘that’s what I appreciates about it’.
Always You closes things back out and gets back to the sweet, storytelling, romantic, loving side of the ledger. If you’ve ever looked at your partner and realized they were the one, that they were always the one, this one’s for you.

When talking about the album, Dean Brody said, “My fans and I have created so many happy memories together with music as the soundtrack and I wanted to be able to keep that going, particularly during these unprecedented times.”
If you’re a fan of Dean Brody’s discography, of his storytelling and singing, and of the way he’s impacting Canadian country music, we highly suggest that you hit play on Boys now and enjoy!
