New Music from The Glorious Sons, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Charlotte Cardin, Gabby Barrett and Fionn

Welcome back to The New Music Spotlight. This time out we’ve got rock, country and pop coming together in a list of 5 new songs we’re recommending you give a listen to.

It starts with Canadian rock, it’s got a taste of the south, and it wraps up with twin-pop from the west coast. Variety is the spice of life, and this list.

Have a listen, tell us which song(s) you’re adding to your playlists and remember – if you find a new song or artist you’re into, tell a friend so they can love it too.

Ready? Let’s go!

Artist: The Glorious Sons
Genre: Rock
Fans Also Like: Sam Roberts Band, Royal Tusk, The Beaches
Song: Mercy Mercy
Notes: The Glorious Sons are back on the NMS with Mercy Mercy, and we’re glad for it. In talking about the new single, lead singer Brett Emmons said: “Mercy Mercy is my own quiet little prayer. It’s me fighting through some twisted process of self-forgiveness and acceptance. It’s a glimpse into my inner dialogue, however hilarious or concerning that might sound. A friend told me that this album sounds like someone at war in their own mind. In that context, I think this song is about faith in oneself, and one’s future—even if the past is always still there.” – It’s always nice to get a little insight – and it makes sense. Give it a listen and see for yourself!

Artist: Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
Genre: Rock
Fans Also Like: Drive-By-Truckers, Whiskeytown, Justin Townes Earle
Song: This Ain’t It
Notes: From the very start of This Ain’t It, we’ve got the drawl we’re looking for, the guitar twang, the everything, all packaged together in one rock and roll song. The musicianship (as expected) is wonderful. The songwriting checks all of the Jason Isbell boxes. And the sound, the one that brings us in every time, is dripping on every note of a 6-minute and 15-second track. Enjoy!

Artist: Charlotte Cardin
Genre: Pop
Fans Also Like: Ingrid St-Pierre, Alicia Moffet, Jonathan Roy
Song: 99 Nights
Notes: Canadian STAR, Charlotte Cardin kicks off her brand new EP with the title track here. 99 Nights headlines a 4-song release and with pop energy and sounds layered with an almost desperate plea for answers and attention – she’s got us hooked from track 1 right here. Here’s hoping you turn this one up!

Artist: Gabby Barrett
Genre: Country
Fans Also Like: Tenille Arts, Hailey Whitters, Ingrid Andress
Song: Glory Days
Notes: Glory Days is a celebration. It’s happy. It’s everything I needed when I hit play that I didn’t know I was looking for. “This is as good as it gets, I don’t know what I would change.” is the simplest, nicest sentiment anyone could express about their life. And even if those moments sometimes feel fleeting, Gabby Barrett has captured them in a country song that I want more of.

Song: TAKE ME OUT!
Notes: Fionn has released a brand new, 12-track, 35-minute, full-length album and we’re kicking it off with song #8 – TAKE ME OUT!.  These sister singers are in fine form here, and it’s especially cool for us to listen and love as we’ve tracked and talked to and written about over the years as they’ve grown and expanded their stories and sound. Get in!
