Boots and Hearts 2022 Day-to-Day Lineup and Don’t Miss Artists

The 2022 Boots & Hearts Music Festival got a whole lot bigger on Friday with the reveal of a full 32-artist lineup across four days in Oro-Medonte, Ontario.

We already knew some of the artists that were headed to the fields to play their sets this summer. But now we have a more complete picture, and more artists to be excited about. And if you love country music, there are names for you to be excited about too.

We’ve got the full day-to-day breakdown here – and we’re throwing in some Don’t Miss Artists for each of the full days Friday – Sunday. We all know that multi-stage festivals end up causing scheduling heartbreak for fans, so we want to get you ready early with the artists we promise you won’t want to miss this August.

Ready? Here we go!

Don’t Miss: Don Amero, Shy Carter

For the first full-day of the festival, this one is going to bang. Sam Hunt has been on the main stage before. Dustin Lynch will be a blast. MacKenzie Porter’s career is white hot right now and we know the crowd is going to sing her hits with her (and maybe we’ll get an Alanis cover too). And if you don’t know Don Amero and Shy Carter as our Don’t Miss Artists on Friday, we suggest you dive in at home now and see them live in August.

Florida Georgia Line come back to the B&H headlining spot on Saturday before they take their sabbatical – and if they’re going away for a while, this could be a special one. Add in a returning Russell Dickerson, boot-stomping Canadian, Meghan Patrick, strong songwriter Steven Lee Olsen and we’re well on our way to a good day. We’ve got Morgan Wade and Sykamore on our Don’t Miss list and really – you don’t want to miss either of them. We’re all in on these women and you should be too. Trust us!

Don’t Miss: Madison Kozak, Brittany Kennell

Let’s Go Girls! We’ve been waiting a decade to see Shania on the Boots and Hearts stage. Did we think it was ever going to happen – honestly, no – but here we go!!! With Lindsay Ell leading her in, the end of the 2022 B&H festival is going to be packed with fun and we cannot wait to see it. Add in Robyn Ottolini, Andrew Hyatt and favs The Redhill Valleys too and it’s going to be a Sunday funday. We’ve got Madison Kozak and Brittany Kennell here as our Don’t Miss Artists, and if you’ve made it to Sunday and have any energy left (we know you will) we highly recommend that you catch these sets before we get to Man! I Feel Like A Woman.

Drop a comment telling us who you think is Don’t Miss material from the 2022 Boots & Hearts lineup – and if you’ve got a favourite song from them, tell us that too!

Arkells Release Reckoning

Arkells have a little reckoning for us all!

Canada’s hardest working band has released their next single, ‘Reckoning,’ from their forthcoming album, Blink Twice. Slated for release in 2022, we can’t believe fans will be getting another album so soon. A companion to their recently JUNO nominated Blink Once, the first single feels a lot like a continuation of sound. The world could definitely use another anthem.

“If you listen to the outro track of Blink Once, ‘Last Night I Heard ‘Em Sing,’ we hint that there’s more coming,” bandleader Max Kerman said in a release. “[It’s] kind of like a post-credits scene in a movie. ‘Reckoning‘ is the beginning of what’s next.”

The song is about privileged people who bury their heads in the sand. It’s also about the admiration for those who lead by example, and want justice for people beyond their own kin. We wanted the song to be big and cinematic — something that felt like walking through the streets at night time. We were inspired by everything from Justice to Run the Jewels. At this point in our career as musicians, we only wanna go where inspiration takes us. – Max Kerman

Check out the video now!

If you’ve been paying attention, in addition to this exciting news, you’ll know that Arkells have been nominated for two JUNOS, they’ll also be performing at the JUNO Awards live from the Bud Stage, and on March 19th they kick off their delayed tour. Get your tickets here (if your city hasn’t sold out!)

The Chicks Head Back Out On The Road

*EDIT – Second show added at Toronto’s Budweiser Stage on June 25th.

The Chicks are headed back out on the road after a long 14 years, starting June 14th.

5 New Albums You Should Listen to Now: Nelson Sobral, Dan Davidson, Eamon McGrath, NOBRO, and Tears for Fears

It’s been a while since we’ve done 5 New Albums You Should Listen to Now. These releases screamed to be shared with our readers, and I couldn’t resist.

This week’s list includes albums from Nelson Sobral, Dan Davidson, Eamon McGrath, NOBRO, and Tears for Fears.

Subscribe to our newsletter to get our recommendations in your inbox.

Nelson Sobral Second Arrow Album Art - beautiful black design on white background

Nelson Sobral: Second Arrow

We’ve featured Nelson with an interview + 5 Quick Questions, and a New Music Spotlight. Sobral is back with his album. We’ve already heard some of the songs on this album, and we’re ready for more. The latest single release is the opening track, “Dancing Fool.” The super high-energy track is about letting go of what no longer serves you. It delivers with its enthusiastic chorus, raw swagger, and impeccable guitar playing.

With a hint of country, a touch of blues, a hit of horns, and a hefty dose of Americana, Second Arrow soothes and warms our hearts. Are you feeling a little down? Put on this album. It will lift your spirits.

Second Arrow is a reference to a Buddhist parable, If someone does you harm, that’s the first arrow; but dwelling on it, that’s you causing yourself the next wave of suffering. The ‘second arrow’ is the arrow that you fire upon yourself.” – Nelson Sobral

We’re hoping for a video for “Dancing Fool” soon.

Dan Davidson 6 SONGS TO MIDNIGHT album art

Dan Davidson: 6 Songs To Midnight

6 Songs To Midnight is the follow up release to Dan’s smash single “Really Shouldn’t Drink Around You,” featuring Hayley Jensen, which premiered last fall on CMT Australia and debuted at #7 on Australian country radio.

Additionally, the album features fan favourites like Davidson’s collaboration with The Road Hammers “Roll With It,” the heartwarming track “I Do” and the drinking anthem “Role Models.” Fans will be enamoured by the addition of two unreleased songs, a live recording of “Don’t Judge a Beer By The Label,” and with something a little different, and more of what’s to come from Dan, “Blindspot.”

The multi-award-winning artist is keeping busy!

“This record is, in many ways, the ‘period on the sentence’ of an important part of my growth as an artist,” Davidson shares. “I find this record to be a transitional statement as I step towards what feels like a new level in my career as an artist and songwriter. I feel like as a writer I really show what I do best – ‘get drunk and fall in love songs.’ It’s a collection of tunes that I’m really proud of; there are a bunch of songs that I’ve released over the last year or so plus a few new ones some fans won’t have heard yet!” – Dan Davidson

Dan’s socials and music links can all be found on his website

Eamon McGrath - Bells of Bells of Hope Album Art

Eamon McGrath: Bells of Hope

Bells of Hope delivers ten tracks best listened to in sequence. But, if you’re familiar with McGrath, you’ll find that his music is transitioning to a lighter place.

“The album title references not only a conscious effort to realize a more optimistic and positive-sounding album than its predecessors, but also a long-standing tradition where after a cancer patient has finished their treatment they ring a bell in the hospital,” explains McGrath. “This last year not only saw the world come to a halt because of the tragedies of COVID-19, but it came in tandem with what was an already difficult period for myself and many others. This album is a chance for me to ring one of those figurative bells, looking forward with promise. Things can always and will get better, and it’s important to never lose sight of that.” – Eamon McGrath

Eamon kicks off his Bells of Hope Tour tonight at Lee’s Palace. Tickets are still available! Doors are at 8:30. Check out the website for full tour info. Socials and music links are also on Eamon’s website. Links for Bells of Hope here!

You can get a copy of the album from Bandcamp, and remember, if you buy an album from Bandcamp, it’s around the financial equivalent to the artist of you streaming their music every day for three years. So, here’s McGrath’s Bandcamp Link.

NOBRO LIVE YOUR TRUTH SHRED SOME GNAR ARTWORK

Credit: Chris Anglin

NOBRO: LIVE YOUR TRUTH SHRED SOME GNAR

Searing, full tilt, bitchin’ rock and roll is what Live Your Truth Shred Some Gnar delivers. The seven-track EP was produced by Thomas D’Arcy (July Talk, The Sheepdogs, Yukon Blonde) and mixed by two-time Grammy Award-winning engineer Dave Schiffman (Vampire Weekend, Adele). Their job was to harness NOBRO’s raw power with heavy doses of fun and flair. They’ve succeeded. Notable tracks include the first single, “Better Each Day,” “Eat Slay Chardonnay,” and “Not Myself,” the last created with JUNO nominee Terra Lightfoot.

They’ll be on tour with Billy Talent and Rise Against/Anti-Flag starting April 1st. Check out their website for tickets, music links, and more.

Tears For Fears: The Tipping Point

It’s been 17 years since the last Tears For Fears studio album, and today via Concord Records, fans were rewarded with a brand new album, The Tipping Point. This makes me very happy. Now, this wasn’t a big secret, the band has been doing promo work and releasing singles, but today we got to hear all ten tracks.

Are you wondering why after all this time, they’ve come back together? Are you wondering why the band broke up at the height of their success? Me too! Check out their interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 here >>>INTERVIEW<<<<. No spoilers from me.

1. I think longtime fans will love this album
2. It’s in some ways very much like previous albums intermingled and, at the same time, very different.
3. The themes can be understandably very dark
4. Words that come to mind – euphoric melancholy soaring

And this all makes sense.

Do we love Tears For Fears? They’ve sold 30 million albums worldwide, and there have been 216 samples, 295 covers, 37 remixes. I think so.

My favourite, that’s a tricky question. I’m leaning towards “Break The Man.”

Roland Orzabal (vocals, guitar, keyboards) and Curt Smith (vocals, bass, keyboards) head out on their US tour starting May 20th in Cincinnati and finish up in Wantagh, NY, on June 25th. Then they head back to the UK and perform on July 1st in Telford, UK. With restrictions lifting, border crossing should be easier. Check out tour dates and ticket info on their website

If you think the album cover is cool, you have to check out the website. It’s next level!

Osheaga 2022 Announces Their 15th Edition Headliners (Again)

EDIT: Aracde Fire to sub in for Foo Fighters

“When the Foo Fighters, unfortunately, had to cancel, it was extremely important to us that we book a band that means something special to our local music fans as well as an artist that would appeal to a huge fan base internationally. We are thrilled that our local hometown heroes Arcade Fire were able to step in and fill the void. The band put on one of the most memorable headline sets in Osheaga history in 2010, and having them back for our 15th anniversary will be really special,” explains Nick Farkas, Senior Vice-President, Booking, Concerts and Events at evenko and Founder of Osheaga, “Our thoughts remain with our friends in the extended Foo Fighters family in this tremendously difficult time”.

Osheaga has released its 2022 headliners for July 29 to July 31, 2022. Osheaga is known for its impressive lineups, and this year is no different.

The 2022 headliners will be Foo Fighters on Friday, A$AP Rocky on Saturday, and Dua Lipa will close the show on Sunday.

We’re super excited that the festival could hold onto Foo Fighters since they announced the band in 2020. Thanks, COVID.

Weekend passes are already on sale. Single-day passes go on sale Friday! You can get all your ticket info >>>HERE<<<.

Visit the festival’s artist pages for more info on the individual artists and to start putting together your personal schedule. Some of our favourites are on this list! We’re looking at you, Arkells and Monowhales!

Eminem Top 10 – by the Numbers

On the heels of Eminem‘s appearance at the Super Bowl Half-Time Show, we’re bringing you Eminem’s Top 10 by the Numbers.

Hitting the scene hard when he first appeared in 1988, Marshall Mathers has continued to wow with his unique lyrical content.

There have been feuds and controversy, but the bottom line is that Eminem’s distinctive sound has made its mark on music.

”Eminem gets a pass in the same vein that back during segregation black folks had to be better than average, had to be the best, to be accepted […] he is better than the best. In his own way, he is the best lyricist, alliterator and enunciator out there in hip-hop music. In terms of rapping about the pain that other disenfranchised people feel, there is no one better at their game than Eminem.” – Lynette Holloway*

Having sold over 220 million records, Eminem is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He’s released eleven studio albums and done three collaboration albums. In addition, he’s done five headlining tours and co-headlined four more.  Love him or hate him; you can’t ignore him.

Number one was a bit of a surprise for me, but when you duet with Rhianna, you’re going to get a lot of attention. It’s a great track, and it deserves to be at the top of this list.

Scroll through the list, hit play on any or all of the songs you love and enjoy. And then you could leave us a comment letting us know which songs you love best, which song missed our list that you think should be here, or which songs are in your personal Top 10. Of course, if Eminem isn’t for you, let us know that too. But, let’s all be respectful.

Even if his music isn’t for you, the man is a legend.

Birds of Bellwoods ‘Creep’ Video

Birds of Bellwoods are back with another compelling video.

Creep’s‘ video uses a one-shot concept. Lead singer Stevie Joffe walks and then runs towards the camera, singing his story. As he approaches, he strips down one piece at a time. Add some “tar” and feathers visuals, and the metaphor is complete.

“‘Creep’ is a song about accountability and hope, reflecting on who you have been, taking responsibility, and committing to growth. The video was directed by the band’s Stevie Joffe (his first time directing!), and it was produced by Matt Bell of Northbound Entertainment, with cinematography by Matthew Guarrasi.”

Hit play and enjoy.

If you haven’t checked out Album B follow the link below.

In 2022 the band will release their sophomore LP, produced by rock mainstay Dave Schiffman (PUP, The Strumbellas, Red Hot Chilli Peppers).

Birds of Bellwoods are currently signed to Monarch Music Group (formerly eOne Music Canada).

New Music Spotlight with Frank Turner, KoRn, Pacific Estate, Alicia Moffet, and Noah Guthrie

New Music from Frank Turner, KoRn, Pacific Estate, Alicia Moffet, and Noah Guthrie

Hello Friday and hello music lovers. Today I’ve got a mix of genres and countries of origin, and the music will take you all over the place emotionally.

Get ready to dig in. Hit play, read the notes and find a new favourite.

Let’s do this!

Artist: Frank Turner
Hometown: Manama, BH / Meonstoke, Hampshire, England
Genre: Alternative Rock
Related: The Gaslight Anthem, Brian Fallon, Arkells
Song:A Wave Across The Bay”
Notes: In “A Wave Across The Bay,” Turner pays homage to his friend Scott Hutchinson of Frightened Rabbit, who took his life in 2018. It’s the sound of an understanding friend accepting that his friend is gone and that he’s now in peace.

“I still miss my friend Scott everyday. His passing left such a huge hole in so many lives. I wrote this song in his honour and memory — it was hard to write and record, but I think it does the man some small justice.” – Frank Turner

Profits from each 7″ vinyl sale will be donated to the children and young people’s mental health charity, Tiny Changes.

Artist: KoRn
Hometown: Bakersfield, CA, USA
Genre: Nu Metal
Related: Coal Chamber, Rob Zombie, Slipknot
Song: “Forgotten”
Notes: “Forgotten” is the band’s first offering of 2022, and it’s the second song off their upcoming studio album Requiem. Their 14th studio album is due out February 4th via Loma Vista Recordings. The sound is classic 2000s KoRn, and we think it’s just what fans are looking for.

Links: Web / Facebook / Twitter / Instagram / Spotify / Apple

Artist: Pacific Estate
Hometown: Toronto, ON, Canada
Genre: Indie Rock
Related: Arkells, Hollerado, The Beaches
Song: “Millenial”
Notes: I wanted to hate this song, but from note one, I loved it. “Millenial’s” AAA OOOs will have you singing along. It’s catchy, it’s fun, and it’s just what I needed this morning. In case it needs to be said, I swear, I don’t dislike Millenials.

Millennial” is packed with nostalgic references to reflect our lives, present and past, as well as our parents’ lives. There’s a line about Blockbuster, the chorus of “Teenagers” by My Chemical Romance, and some personal ones too.” – Pacific Estate

This song is stuck in my head.

Song: “Lullaby”
Notes: Alicia Moffet debuts on thereviewsarein with “Lullaby.” The track is sassy and in your face. It’s anything but sweet and soothing.

“This song is really like an anthem for me, and I think it will be for many other people. I’ve always been the type of person who doesn’t want to disturb others by being too loud or not saying too much of what I think,” said Alicia. “I’ve also felt too often that people didn’t believe in me or looked down on me and this song is a way to release all the negativity that those situations brought me and to free myself from what I was putting on by just saying F*ck ittttt!” – Alicia

Trish’s 10 Most Listened to Albums of 2021

In this post, I’ll be looking at my most played albums for 2021. It’s been another weird year. So little live music, so many long days blurring into one another. Music always helps.

Take a look back with me at the albums and EPs I listened to most. This time around there are some older albums that made the top cut. I’m good with that.

?? X AmbassadorsThe Beautiful Liar

Most Played Track: Adrenaline
Notes: The Beautiful Liar is also currently sitting at the top of my list for albums I can put on and not hit skip. Front to back this album speaks to me. It’s spooky and creepy. It also rocks, hard. My top 5 most played songs on Spotify were from this album.

I love this band from Ithaca, NY who feel like Toronto is on their side. So much so, that we were their only Canadian date.

When things started to open back up, this band was the first one I saw live.

?? The Glorious Sons: A War On Everything

Most Played Track: Pink Motel
Notes:
Back for a second time. This album had staying power for me. In fact, it moved up from fifth to second since 2019’s list. My most played track may have changed but this album has kept me company more times than I could count. From 2019’s post – “Panic Attack to Pink Motel, this record provides honest lyrics, a wide range of style, inspirational stories, and hooks that’ll stick in your head.” This still holds true.

I managed to get out and shoot this band before things started to go to hell again.

?? Crown Lands: Odyssey Vol. 1

Most Played Track: White Buffalo
Notes: With a December 2nd, release date it’s surprising to see this album make the cut. And yet, it’s not. I love this band and I can’t get enough. They took some of my already favourites and bundled them together with new tracks. Coming in just shy of an hour, it’s another no skips album. It’s a mood, it’s a journey, it’s a message.

The Crown Lands Big Wave Tour was the first show important enough to me, to get back out there with my camera. It was so worth it.

?? The Honest Heart Collective: More Harm

Most Played Track: If You Wanna Leave
Notes: Take 7 tracks filled with compelling lyrics, a touch of emotionality, tempered with balls-out rocking guitars. They rock with a sense of confidence. That attitude comes from putting in the work, taking their time, and building from the bottom up. More Harm is everything you’re looking for in an album.

?? 🇧🇧 Rihanna: Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded

Most Played Track: Umbrella
Notes:
Perhaps the biggest surprise, at least for me, is Rihanna popping up on this list. I think we can thank our related post for this one. No apologies here. Twelve years later, this album still pumps. I mean, who didn’t need dance breaks during the workday this year?

?? Arkells: Blink Once

Most Played Track: You Can Get It (ft. K.Flay)
Notes:
This is the only album that appears on both my list and Joshua’s list. I love this song because it’s catchy. When it comes on I have to sing along. My biggest regret was not seeing Arkells when they were here. I just wasn’t ready to get out in public yet. One thing I can count on, they’ll be back. Arkells are one of the hardest touring bands in the business.

??Oddisee: Odd Cure

Most Played Track: The Cure
Notes:
First, Oddisee is an amazing storyteller. This album is next level and something we can all relate to. Make sure you listen to the skit tracks. That shit is real life during the pandemic. It’s not just that he can spit so many words, it’s how he strings them together, and it’s the music behind it. There are timing changes, sweet energy, and his band Good Compny is so good. Amazing instrumentation! A combo of jazz, funk, go-go, gospel, soul, and hip-hop.

Dig deeper into the catalogue, there’s some life-changing stuff in here.

?? Hotel Mira: Perfectionism

Most Played Track: The Eyes on You
Notes:
This album’s been kicking around on all of my playlists since its release. Hotel Mira released a new video for one of my favourite tracks this year just prior to touring.

Sadly, I wasn’t feeling well enough to catch the band when they came through town with The Zolas. Next time.

??The War On Drugs: I Don’t Live Here Anymore

Most Played Track: I Don’t Live Here Anymore
Notes:
It’s an album about life. Could be it any simpler than that? It’s emotional and I connected deeply with it. The album delivers the classic The War On Drugs sound. It’s moody and thoughtful. It makes you want to hit play again the second it’s over.

🇮🇪 Hozier: Wasteland Baby

Most Played Track: Almost (Sweet Music)
Notes:
Not new but this album still resonates with me. I hope there’s new music soon and that we get a tour, once it’s safe for that to happen.

Charming Liars, “Sequence 2: The After” 5 Quick Questions

Who are Charming Liars?

Take two parts West London (England) in the form of Karnig Manoukian on guitar and Mike Kruger on bass. Then, add a vocalist from Southern California, Kiliyan Maguire, a little chemistry, and you’ve got an alt-rock/pop band out of Los Angeles that excels at getting stuck in your head.

In early October, the band released the EP “Sequence 2: The After.

“In 2021 I was faced with the passings of two very close people in my life and with those passings came a flood of questions pertaining to what happens after death. Our new E.P. “The After” really allowed me a place to grieve as well as explore the questions these passings brought with them. It’s the first concept piece we’ve ever constructed and I’m extremely proud as well as grateful for the healing process that this record brought with it.”Kiliyan Maguire

They’ve recently followed up with a “reimagined” version of the tracks filmed against the beauty of The Canyon.

“We’ve taken the challenge of making videos for entire EP’s this year and we’ve really enjoyed the process. For the official video of THE AFTER, we wanted to do something extremely ambitious so we rearranged the 3 songs to perform them with some of the most talented string players in the world! Once we’d accepted that idea, we thought about where we’d perform them and we had just watched an incredible 90-minute performance that the dance group RUFUS DU SOL had done in Joshua tree. It made us think we could perform in a canyon somewhere and eventually we found the right location. It was quite a task to put this whole thing together but we’re extremely happy with the results!” – Charming Liars

Thanks To Kiliyan for taking the time to put together this video for us. We appreciate it! This video was shot just as everything was shutting down last time. So, if you’re feeling a sense of deja vu, you’re not alone.

5 Quick Questions with Charming Liars’ Kiliyan Maguire

A thing I found while checking out the band’s YouTube Channel — amazing covers! Take a deep dive into their back catalogue; there’s lots of great stuff here!

Plans to tour with The Hunna (Crown Lands toured with this awesome band) have been dashed. However, Charming Liars hope to tour next year when it’s safe to do so. Keep an eye on their socials for updates.
