Quaker® Canada Fed Me Breakfast at School

Quaker Canada!

Hey kids, today has been a pretty cool day. It started early – much earlier than I usually do anything in my life. But when the alarm went off at 5:57am I was ready to rock & roll!

Why up so early? That’s what you’re all asking I’m sure. Well, this morning at School (the Liberty Village restaurant) there was a special Back-to-School breakfast from Quaker Canada to raise awareness for their Quaker® Canada – Unlock Amazing campaign that is rocking on Facebook.

We got to the restaurant and sat at desks, just like back in the day. There were apples on all of the desks, that wasn’t the same as when I was a kid. And they brought me coffee… also not the same as when I was a kid.

Here’s the other thing, CityTV’s Breakfast Television showed up to cover the event and to help get the word out on this pretty awesome campaign that will see Quaker® Canada donate up to 1,000,000 bowls of oatmeal to Food Banks Canada.

Side Note: It’s super easy to help donate. Go to http://facebook.com/quakercanada – hit the like button and then make your way over to Unlock Amazing section and follow the instructions. You pick a flavour of oatmeal and they donate bowls to charity. This morning I picked Maple Brown Sugar and donated 10 bowls to the food bank. That’s effin’ awesome!

Back to BT. So Jen, the roam around the city reporter, was there with her camera dude and they took some shots. She talked to the people from Quaker and she was really polite and amazing with the crowd that were all thinking about the fact that they could have still been sleeping. And then… then it all went down.

At some point around 8am in the morning they told us that they were going to give away 2 prizes from Great Wolf Lodge. Everyone perked up. Everyone likes to win things. But then they told us that we were going to have to skip to win. Like jump rope. I said no thank you.

However, peer pressure got the best of me and I was sent up to jump rope in the practice round. I did some jumps, stayed standing, didn’t trip and fall and then went for a cigarette with @TheDanLevy thinking that it was over for me. And then I was peer pressured again and I ended up being 1 of the 4 contestants in the school yard type contest.

And to prove it, I have pictures. Here ya go.

It's Me - Doing Double Dutch!

Yes, that is a backpack. I got in there and did things with a prop because I was sure that I wasn’t going to win. But then a funny thing happened, I got 30 jumps in during the 1st round which meant I got to move on. Then I was coached to take the backpack off and jump in the 2nd round and I jumped well again and tied for 2nd place and moved on again.

And then we got to the finals and I was ready to go last. I didn’t have the backpack, I emptied my pockets, I got some high fives and jumped in the fire… and I jumped more than the people I was against.

It's Me - Doing Double Dutch - On One Foot!

This is my fav screenshot – me with the oatmeal and doin’ it on 1 foot!

In the end I won’t be going to Great Wolf Lodge. There was someone who deserved it more than a near-30 guy without kids. But I did get some sweet swag from Quaker® including a backpack, 2 boxes of Apple Cinnamon oatmeal, pencils, post-its, paperclips, a notebook, a coffee mug, a travel mug that doubles as a cereal bowl and has a spoon, a coupon for free oatmeal at McDonalds and a $100 Staples gift card.

How great is that?! I love all of those things. Especially the post-its!

Side Note: I didn’t say enough about Dan. It was great to see him, he drove down to Liberty Village to hang out and even drove me to work on time. What a mensch.

At the end of the day it was very much worth waking up at 5:57am to go and have breakfast. And I hope that any of you that saw me on TV, I hope I didn’t look fat.

That’s all for now my friends, stay smiling, be awesome!

    1. Joshua says:

      I don’t know… maybe the quaker canada website? http://www.quakeroats.ca/

  2. Dan Levy says:

Thanks so much Josh! Appreciate the words! It had been way too long since I’d seen you so I had to do something about it!

One thing that you don’t make clear above is that YOU WON but are such an awesome guy you gave your prize away to the lady with the kids. Key aspect of the story!

    1. Joshua says:

Thanks man – I really didn’t want that part to be on TV… but it was. She deserved it. I’m happy with 3 cups of #xocoffee, hot breakfast, a backpack full of awesome stuff and talking at the back of the class with you!

  3. Meredith says:

This post is fantastic. I was so glad to meet you, Dan and Jay P. You planning on joining any double dutch leagues in the future?

  4. Rox says:
