The 100th Grey Cup – Argos To Watch!
Attention Toronto sports fans, it’s happening!
This Sunday at the Rogers Centre the Toronto Argos will take on the Calgary Stampeders at the 100th Grey Cup.
It’s not something that we’re used to. We’re not used to winning championships around here. It’s been 20 years since the Blue Jays won their first of 2 World Series, it’s been 45 years since the Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup and the Raptors and TFC are championship free since each of their births.
BUT, this weekend it can all change. We can be champions again for the first time since these same Argos were champions in 2004!
Note: The Toronto Rock have had success. We do have love for them.
After a great win in Montreal last weekend that was exciting, tense, close and came down to the wire, this Argonauts team has made it to the big game in a super celebrated year and in front of their home fans. It’s an awesome thing.
So, in case you’re not an Argos fan or you’re a super casual fan like me, here are some names to look out for this weekend when you’re cheering on the Double Blue.
Ricky Ray #15, QB: Ricky is a CFL veteren and future Hall of Famer. He’s also the best QB we’ve had in TO for years. And to top it all off, he’s got an awesome moustache as we continue our way through Movember.
Swayze Waters #30, K: Swayze kicks the field goals for the Argos. He could be a very, very important dude on the field this Sunday. And his name is SWAYZE!
Maurice Mann #9, WR: Mo Mann could have a lot of balls thrown his way this weekend is Chad Owens gets the attention that he deserves. Mann has proven that he can make the big plays and you should keep an eye on him.
Chad Kackert #44, RB: Chad is a pretty darn good running back and had some big runs in Montreal that helped to win the East Final.
Adriano Belli #78, DT: Adriano Belli is a CFL legend. He’s known for his passion on and off the field and his nickname of The Kissing Bandit. He’s a fan fav and should get some big cheers. And if things go well for the Argos on Sunday I’m sure he’ll find a bunch of people to kiss.
Ronald Flemons #99, DE: Flemons is a big, fast, talented dude on D and is likely to cause havoc for the Calgary O. I’m looking for a sack or two, a heap of tackles and controlled, wild energy!
Chad Owens #2, KR/SB: Chad Owens is the Eastern Division’s Most Outstanding Player. He’s a dynamic kick and punt returner. And this year he’s proven himself to be a reliable receiver who can break away from tackles and run like the wind. The man they call CO2 will probably be a big part of what the
Argos try to do on Sunday and his hands will be all over the ball and the game story.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m excited. Excited to be going to the game. Excited to see the Argos in the 100th Grey Cup. Excited for the pre-game and half time shows. And I’m excited for the atmosphere inside the Rogers Centre, the fans are going to be awesome.
It’s going to be a hell of a game.
I’m picking Toronto!
Thanks to Nissan for the invite.
