Heart Wishes For Weslee: Help Make A Difference!

Weslee In His Mini MustangSuper WesleeLast summer I met a little boy named Weslee. He is 4 years old and currently on a waiting list, hoping to find the perfect donor match for a heart transplant. I met Weslee and his family at a Ford event in St. Thomas, ON and without being told about his circumstances we never would have known. Weslee is an adorable, sweet and engaging little guy who makes you smile and be a better person when you’re around him.

Note: Weslee was born with a congenital heart condition called hypoplastic left heart syndrome, meaning he was born with half a heart.  To date he has had 18 procedures, spending countless hours at Sick Kids.  But now the doctors say it’s time and Weslee needs a new heart.

He LOVES LOVES LOVES Mustangs and even has his own red model that he drives around in at car shows all over Ontario when he’s healthy enough to travel with his dad. I saw it in action, he’s a pretty good driver!

However, as you can imagine, it’s not all smiles and car shows for Weslee and his family and that’s where we can all help out. Weslee’s family is in desperate need of help to cover the cost of his trips to Sick Kids and for his mom to take care of him when he is able to be home. Trips to Toronto mean days off work without pay and spending money on food and accommodations. And when the family is at home they are doing their best to stretch 1 income so that Weslee’s mom can stay home with him and take care of her little boy while he waits for his heart transplant.

To try and help Weslee’s family out there have been 2 fundraising efforts put together that you can support! This coming Monday night at The Dog & Bear (1100 Queen Street West) in Toronto there will be a karaoke fundraiser, kind of like what we do every year for Movember. All proceeds will go to the family and you can find more details and RSVP on the Facebook event page here -> Karaoke Soirée – Fundraiser for 4-year old Weslee

There is also an indiegogo campaign that you can donate to online that includes some fun perks and will go a long way to helping mom and dad in their efforts to spend as much time as they can with Weslee when he’s at the hospital and when he’s at home. Check it out here -> Heart Wishes for Weslee

Weslee is a brave little boy and his story reminds us that sometimes bad things happen to good people. It’s also a reminder that we all have the chance to do something as easy as donating $5 to help a family in need.

Please, if you can, join everyone at The Dog & Bear and/or donate online. And help us spread the word by sharing the links to the indiegogo campaign, the Facebook event or this post through your networks.

Thank you all for being awesome.
