Sam Hunt grew up in Georgia with two loves, football and music.
And now, at 29 years old, his football career (high school, college & NFL) is behind him and it looks like a very bright future in country music is in front of him.
Hunt’s first taste of country music success came in 2012 with the release of Kenny Chesney’s #1 hit single, Come Over And after a quiet 2013 on the charts, Sam is back in a big way in 2014…
2 more singles co-written by Hunt have hit the charts this year.
1) Billy Currington – We Are Tonight – #13 on the Billboard Country Charts
2) Keith Urban – Cop Car – #4 on the Billboard Country Charts
Let’s take a step back though, because that quiet 2013 wasn’t really all that quiet. Hunt recorded and released a free, 15 track mixtape titled, Between The Pines.
Between The Pines has given us two singles of its own with 2013’s Raised On It… a catchy track about growing up in a small rural spot and having a whole lot of fun doing it. And, Leave The Night On, the new single that tells another small town story, this time with a boy thinking about a girl and asking her to come with him for a night they can both remember. Leave The Night On is sitting at #24 on the Billboard Hot Country Chart right now… and I expect it to keep climbing.
2014 is also the first year that Hunt is coming to play in Canada, with stops that include Ottawa Bluesfest and Boots & Hearts, which will mark his Canadian Country Music Festival debut on August 1.
I’m excited to see Sam take the SiriusXM stage on Friday night (6pm) with nobody on the main stage to compete for attention with. With the mixtape and the radio singles that he’s written for others in his arsenal, I don’t doubt that he’s going to be able to put on a hell of a show. And let’s face it, small town is small town… Cedartown, Georgia might be 1,500km from Bowmanville, Ontario, but those things that Sam sings about and grew up with are the same things that I grew up with not far from Canadian Motorsport Park.
Right now I can tell you that I’m in the process of becoming a Sam Hunt fan. And with an entertaining set in Bowmanville, and more songs like the ones he’s released so far, I’ll be all in for a long, long time.
Stay tuned for more updates, profiles and interviews from Boots & Hearts as we get closer to this years festival.
