CMW 2015 Spotlight: Demi Louise

It’s been a busy 2015 for Australian folk/pop singer-songwriter Demi Louise – and it’s not even half over yet.

Demi Louise CMW 2015 Profile PicWith stops at Folk Alliance International in Kansas, the world famous South by Southwest in Austin, and now Toronto’s Canadian Music Week, Demi has been making a name for herself far away from home in hopes that it will raise her profile and help her move further along in her career.

The unsigned songstress has an honest, strong and smooth voice that seems almost effortless when she performs, and her lyrics and gentle guitar playing fit in perfectly to complete her sound. All alone on the Cameron House stage, Demi had the largest 7pm crowd we saw all week, with a mix of Aussies and Canadians sitting, standing and swaying during the showcase set.

With original songs like Ruins (check the bottom of the post for the official video), Realise (for which there’s an awesome Hotel Jams live video featuring one of our current favs, Canadian Tim Chaisson, check the bottom of the post to see it), Restless (which will be her next single), Taxi Driver (written last week during CMW songwriting sessions), and the 2014 Australian Pop Song of the Year as voted by the Australian Songwriters Association – Rivers Run to Red (also recorded by winner of The Voice, Germany: Charley Ann), added to a great cover of Kodaline’s All I Want (from The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack), Demi Louise was all kinds of entertaining and engaging.

note: It was pretty damn adorable to hear her say thank you at the end of each song and then “thanks guys” after the audience clapped and cheered, as if she was genuinely surprised that it kept happening.

Demi Louise EP Songs From My BedroomWith a 5 song EP, Songs From My Bedroom, released in 2013, Demi is still looking for the support and push from a label to help propel her forward. And we hope she gets it.

She’s got a look that would place her perfectly on Queen West in Toronto, a voice that carries, and music that plays, there’s no reason for her not to get a chance. Demi Louise could definitely hang with the likes of Tim Chaisson, The Lovelocks, Good Lovelies and other Canadian roots/folk/singer-songwriter types.

Check a couple videos here to see what Demi’s bringing to the table and make that call for yourself. And if you want to know more, you can find Demi Louise online at these fine locations…
