Arkells have been releasing records since 2007 with the debut self released EP Deadlines. They’ve been on my radar since 2008. Joining Dine Alone Records and releasing Jackson Square was a definite turning point for the band and they started showing up on mainstream radio. The band formed in Hamilton and worked their way up to the top of the Canadian music scene culminating in winning multiple Junos.

I’m surprised that Arkells hasn’t made it on my “bands I’ve shot” list yet, although I have seen them live. I’m very happy they’ll be hitting the stage at WayHome 2016 and letting me add them to the list.

Not only do they grab us with the music and the lyrics, they tell great stories and they can really make us laugh. Narrowing this down to 5 really wasn’t easy.
