The Darcys + Leah Fay at 102.1 The Edge – Sugar Beach Session

Watching The Darcys + Leah Fay at 102.1 The Edge’s Sugar Beach Session was the perfect end to my day. Nothing beats a little live music to take you away. Add a sweet lake breeze, and you’re all set.

In case you haven’t heard The Darcys, and Leah Fay have a brand new single out. Just Here With My Friends was released on June 22nd. It’s an upbeat song that challenges you to sit still in your seat. The Darcys’ fans have been waiting two years for new music, and this fun collaboration with Leah Fay of July Talk was worth the wait.

The song breaks away from your typical boy meets girl narrative. Instead of meeting and dancing the night away together, the song’s characters opt to stay and dance with their friends. It’s a nice change from the typical predatory boy tries to convince girl story and gives credit to both sides of the interaction. I’m a fan.

Starting the set sans Fay, Jason Couse and Wes Marskell got the crowd warmed up. Leah quickly joined the pair, and we were treated to a beautiful rendition of Don Henley’s The Boys of Summer. When they got to the part where the guitar does its sweet wail, Leah sang along with the wail, and it was amazing!

It was a scorching afternoon. In the middle of the set, Fay grabbed a basket full of bottled water.  She made her way to the front of the crowd. She passed out bottles to thirsty fans with a smile on her face. It’s important that everyone stays hydrated. It was sweet and very much appreciated.

They finished out the set with Just Here With My Friends. It was no surprise to me to see people singing along. The song is all over radio and climbing, currently sitting at #14 on The Edge Top 30. If you missed the Sugar Beach Session, you can still catch The Darcys (and we’re pretty sure Leah Fay) at The Bentway on August 25th. The Darcys will be hitting the stage at this unique new space along with Brave Shores, MONOWHALES, and Myles Castello. Watch this link for ticket details!
