RALPH, A Good Girl Album Review

RALPH A Good Girl Album Feature 3

Emerging pop powerhouse RALPH has turned a lot of heads in her career so far. And she’s going to turn even more with the release of her debut full-length album A Good Girl.

The 10-track offering is a full collection of songs that music lovers can dig into. It’s going to be a lot of fun for a lot of ears. It’s already been fun for ours.

From start to finish on A Good Girl, RALPH shows off her voice and feel for a groove. Every song on the album has something that you can dance, sway, tap your feet, or even just close your eyes and flow to. It’s a selection of songs that has taken her previous work and added a little something-something.

In our introduction to the album, we were told to expect the disco flare and synth-laden sounds we were used to, with the addition of heavier beats and a sprinkle of R&B that would increase the danceability. And after listening through the album three or four times already, we can wholeheartedly agree with that assessment.

Heck, in her 604 Records bio it says that RALPH grew up singing along to Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Prince, and the Temptations – and we can hear that, it makes sense, and that’s a helluva a group to count as inspirations for a career in pop music.

Note: We are totally wishing for another RALPH / The Darcys collaboration after listening to A Good Girl. If someone wants to put together a follow-up to Screenplay, we’d be happy to hear it!

Aside from the individual songs themselves, there’s a groove to this album that is super smooth. By the time we hit GIMME, Tables Have Turned and her most recent single, Weather at tracks 3, 4, and 5 A Good Girl is just flowing through the speakers without any hesitation. There’s no thinking about what we’re listening to or trying to break it all down. There’s just music washing over us and doing its thing.

And we like it!

With more than 14 million streams on Spotify, RALPH has already become a bonafide bop creating machine (Tables Have Turned put her on the over of Spotify’s It’s a Bop playlist this summer) and this album will only push that number higher.

At the end of the album, after that groove takes you through eight songs of RALPH-y goodness, the treats come. Girl Next Door features TOBi and adds hip-hop to the pop sounds on the album. And, Cereal brings in Montreal duo, Milk & Bone to add another layer to the song, along with the beats and flow it already has going for it.

In the end, A Good Girl is the next step for RALPH and the fans that have been following her since day 1 – and it’s an introduction to newcomers who will use this debut full-length album as their way in. In both cases, it’s exactly what it needs to be. Pop music lovers are going to find something they can sink their teeth into.

And they’re going to dance.
