Palaye Royale Bring the Boom Boom Room Home to Toronto

Palaye Royale fans are the best.

I had the opportunity to find this out first hand on Wednesday afternoon at the 94.9 fans acoustic set at Jasper Dandy. Fans filled the east end bar, waiting patiently for the doors to open. And when they were told to come in and sit down on the floor, they did exactly that. Orderly and respectfully they took their places and held their excitement. For now at least.

Remington Leith, Sebastian Danzig, and Emerson Barrett, the brothers Kropp, make up the core of Palaye Royale and they played for the fans, but they also took questions during the acoustic set. And when it was all over, they brought everyone together for a group photo, followed by individual chats and photos with the contest winners. It was sweet, thoughtful and respectful. And to be honest, it did not prepare me for the performance later that night at The Opera House.

Before I get ahead of myself, let me get a little background in. If you haven’t heard of Palaye Royale you must be living under a rock somewhere. They’ve been touted as the “Hottest Band of 2018” and “Group of the Year” by English music press. Originally from Toronto, the band has relocated to Las Vegas to pursue their dreams.

Their name is a derivative of Toronto’s famous venue, The Palais Royale and the guys settled on this name because it held a lot of nostalgia for them. According to the story, told during the acoustic set, it’s where their grandparents first met.

In 2018 they released their second album, The Boom Boom Room (Side B) and they’ve been getting a ton of attention. Remington’s vocals are unique, powerful and they demand your attention. Pair that with their on stage energy and showmanship and you’ve got a winning combination. Visually, this band is everything. Makeup and great styles enrich the performance. I’m so excited to see glam rock back.

Highlights of the evening included screaming fans (think 60’s Beatles fans), Sebastian and Remington both jumping from the stage to the barricades, Sebastian finding his way up on top of the stack, the guys bringing out their mom so everyone could sing Happy Birthday for her and smiles. Everywhere I looked there were smiles. It was everything.
