Sheenah Ko, Wrap Me Up – 5 Quick Questions

Sheenah Ko is a Chinese/Irish multi-instrumentalist who splits her time between Montreal & Maui.

In her list of bands that have influenced her style, she includes PJ Harvey, Tori Amos, Bjork, Annie Lennox, Julee Cruise, Boards of Canada, Portishead, Orbital, Leftfield, The Orb, Nine Inch Nails. We hear that.

She is possibly most known for her work with The Besnard Lakes although she has also toured with Bedouin Soundclash, Little Scream, and many other acts.

Sheenah’s work as a solo artist is something completely different. The music is intended to immerse audiences in an enticing exploration.

“A huge, deep sound, she creates a certain mood and ambience, bringing listeners into a trippy dreamlike state of “breathing” analogue synths, raw emotional vocals and driving beats. Accompanied by contemporary dancer, Brittney Canda, they enchant entire venues with their emotionally-charged and intensely captivating show. Her sophomore album, Nowhere In Time, is being released early 2020.” – Sheenah Ko’s Facebook

Her latest project, Wrap Me Up, combines music, dance, and film in a mesmerizing ramble. The music and film are both powerful pieces which immediately evoke emotion.

While planning the video for Wrap Me Up, Sheenah made a conscious choice to do something very different. Instead of making a traditional music video, she decided to make a short film.

Ko has been working with fellow Montrealer dancer/choreographer Brittney Canda to enhance her live shows. With the film in mind, she brought together the talents of Canda, director Vincent René-Loitier and his film company, Telescope Films. Canda is responsible for the diverse cast. The dancers were chosen from very different dance backgrounds, and minority groups and a range in physical abilities. They work magnificently together.

The result is a thing of beauty.

We were fortunate enough to have Sheenah do a round a 5 Quick Questions for us. She went above and beyond and returned an exquisite piece of video for us to use.

Thank you Sheenah!
