Jessica Mitchell & Sons of Daughters – Heart of Glass Tour in Toronto
Jessica Mitchell came home to Toronto on Thursday night. The singer was joined by Sons of Daughters at The Great Hall for the Heart of Glass Tour performance.
Playing the beautiful, intimate Longboat Hall space, the evening was full of music, stories, and emotions. The venue offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere which lent itself perfectly to these performances.
Chrystal Leigh and Jimmy Thow hit the stage promptly at 8:00 pm, and they delivered a stellar performance which included their latest single Ain’t Gonna Be Lonely Long, as well as, Can’t Find Love in a Bar, and What if We Stay. Their harmonies are breath-taking, and the energy they bring is passionate.
They finished out the stripped-down acoustic set by letting us know that both come from rock backgrounds and then they delivered the most amazing cover of Metallica’s Enter Sandman. It was spectacular.
We had a chance to chat with Chrystal and Jimmy at the merch table after their set, and they both expressed how nice it was to be home in Canada and how much they loved Jessica Mitchell. Jessica later reciprocated the love while on stage saying she was obsessed with Sons of Daughters. We have to agree with them; this pairing is a match made in heaven.
The room was full when Jessica Mitchell and her band took the stage for the Heart of Glass tour.
The quintessential storyteller looked happy, relaxed, and at home on the Longboat Hall stage. When she joked that she couldn’t have booked the show any closer to home, she meant it. She lives across the street from the iconic Toronto venue. One of the bonuses of playing close to home is that friends get the chance to come out and support you.
Friends were out in full force, including Jessica’s boyfriend, who offered welcome encouragement during the set. The singer-songwriter looked confident and comfortable in the headlining role and in true Jessica Mitchell style she told us stories, and joked between songs. It’s one of the many things that fans love about her. She’s real.
The crowd was treated to tried and true songs and a little something new. After singing Somebody Like Me, Jessica asked the audience if they thought she should record it. They did.
Throughout this tour, Mitchell has been adding in a single cover song. Toronto got a very cool cover of Sia’s Elastic Heart. The song lent itself beautifully to Jessica’s rich, soulful vocals.
The tour continues tonight in Burnstown, ON at Neat Coffee Shop, November 24th in Hamilton at Mill’s Hardware and finishes up in London’s Aeolian Hall on November 28th. After that the singer has a week off and then she’s headed out to do Christmas shows. You can find tour dates and ticket info on her website.
It’s been a hectic year for Jessica Mitchell, and we expect next year will be just as busy, if not busier. We’re hoping for new music, and it looks like we may get some.
