State Of Mind – Hunter Brothers Albums Review

Acclaimed Canadian country quintet, Hunter Brothers have returned with their sophomore album, State Of Mind. The harmony-rich band of brothers’ new album is the follow up to 2017’s Getaway and delivers 12 new tracks to country fans who love the sound of these Saskatchewan farm boys.

Throughout the album, the strength lies where it always does with Hunter Brothers, in their voices. The lead vocals from Brock, Dusty, J.J., Luke, and Ty shine on each one of the 12 songs on State Of Mind. And while that doesn’t surprise us, it does delight us. There’s a certain magic that comes from sibling harmonies (maybe it’s the life long practice, maybe it’s DNA, maybe it’s shared influence, maybe it really is magic) and these boys are a prime example.

Fans of Hunter Brothers know that they like to have fun, with their social media antics providing some great examples. And that fun is present on this new album with upbeat tracks that we hope were as enjoyable to record as they are to listen to and sing along with. Tracks like Lost (which already has more than 600,000 plays on Spotify and YouTube), Day Off, and their most recent single, Train, are great listens and good times.

Note: Listening to Train gives us some serious High Valley vibes, and we can’t imagine that we’re alone on that!

In the lead up to the album’s release, Hunter Brothers dropped four songs from State Of Mind for fans to dive into. Train, Next Year, I Still Fall and Lost have all helped prepare for the full record.

From front to back, Hunter Brothers have captured everything we expected from them on their new album. State Of Mind is a collection of upbeat songs, sweet messages of love, and a sound that is becoming increasingly recognized by country music fans in Canada.

With an opening slot on Paul Brandt’s The Journey Tour 2019 (with Brandt, High Valley, and Jess Moskaluke), we have no doubt that the band will be excited to share some of their new material for fans from the front row to the back. And if you’ve ever seen these boys live (or seen videos posted online), you know that when they hit the stage, they go all out to entertain.

In a press release about the album, Ty was quoted as saying, “The last two years, time has been spent between travelling the nation, performing on a multitude of stages, driving up and down dusty fields, and changing dirty diapers. It’s meant a lot of shifting gears, and along with that, the highs, lows, and many changes in our State Of Mind. This album is a compilation of stories that reflects those shifts in thinking, and we can’t wait for listeners to come along for the ride.”

If you’ve ever found yourself turning up the volume, singing, or dancing along to a Hunter Brother song in the past, we highly recommend you get ready to do it again with State Of Mind.
