Country Kicks Cancers Ass Benefit for Cadence Grace Announced!

More times than we can count, members of the Canadian country music community have told us how much it feels like they are all part of one big family. And now, members of that family are coming together to help one of their own in her time of need.

Fans of Canadian country music, particularly those in Ontario, may have already seen posts in recent months talking about Cadence Grace’s diagnoses and fight against cancer. The Runaway Angel singer, a friend to many in the music industry, has been doing everything she can to push back, get healthy, and kick cancer’s ass. But it hasn’t been easy, and she’s not done.

Throughout her journey and battle with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia, Cadence has retained the light and positivity that we love about her. She has pushed through obstacles and bumps along the way, and now she is preparing for a bone marrow transplant that we all hope is the big step she needs to beat cancer.

And while the Canadian health care system is a great thing and makes her treatments and transplant available, there are still steep costs coming in her recovery.

Cadence’s doctors have told her that she has to relocate to Toronto and closer the hospital after her bone marrow transplant. That means rent and other expenses are coming, and not in a low-cost area. So, with the love and support of some fellow members of the Canadian country music family, a benefit concert has been put together to help raise money for Cadence.

On Sunday, March 3 at Rock ‘N’ Horse Saloon in Toronto, Jessica Mitchell, Eric Ethridge, Leah Daniels, Genevieve Fisher, and Kris Barclay will take the stage in an Opry style benefit concert. These Ontario talents will sing songs, tell stories, and likely gush over how great Cadence is (this will probably make her blush and cry, we’d bet on it) throughout the afternoon.

UPDATE: A Facebook post from Runaway Angel’s Stacey Zegers, it has been announced that Small Town Pistols (Amanda and Tyler Wilkinson) will take the stage during the fundraiser.

UPDATE 2: Three more acts have been added to the Country Kicks Cancers Ass benefit, with Ben Hudson, Kelsi Mayne, and Julia Haggarty joining the Canadian country lineup. This brings the total lineup to nine artists… and who knows, maybe there will still be more special guests.

The event also includes an “and more” on the lineup, and that isn’t surprising to us. We fully expect some special guest appearances by artists who are in the area, and it should be a great time, for a great cause.

Country Kicks Cancers Ass Tickets!

On a personal note, we can tell you that we have great affection for Cadence. Over the last few years, we have had the chance to work and cover her and Runaway Angel. We’ve also had the chance to be her friend, to speak with her behind-the-scenes, and to know how special she is as a person.

Cadence Grace is the kind of person who lifts you up. Who smiles and laughs and enjoys all of the positive energy that is around her. And who creates that kind of energy at every opportunity.

And in the last few months, she has shown us her strength, and we know she’s got more where that came from.

We know that we aren’t alone in having these feelings. And we know that it’s because of that, we know that this benefit will be a success.
