The Meringues 5 Quick Questions [New Single – Cold Nights]

Kingston, Ontario’s The Meringues are back with a hot new single. Cold Nights is the second single off their self-titled EP.

I was in from the opening notes. Cold Nights at 2:21 is reminiscent of classic old punk and ska. The song is short, sweet, and catchy as fuck. There’s a ton of back and forth story between singers Amanda Pants and Ted Evans, and the melody gets stuck in your head.

The video is a mix of choppy black and white fun moments with Amanda and Ted hanging out, fooling around, chilling, and deep, rich purple and red-hued performance bits. It’s a great combination that works. The first thing I did when it was over was hit replay.

If you’re in the Kingston area, you can catch them live at The Mansion for Bday Party!! Silvertone Hills/Days of Thieves/The Meringues. You won’t be sorry.

Thanks to Ted for answering our questions. Hit play on this one and then read the questions and answers.

5 Quick Questions with The Meringues

Q1) If you’re on a road trip, what’s the one album you can listen to on repeat?

Ted) Born Ruffians – Uncle, Duke & The Chief

Q2) Can you tell us something fun/interesting about the filming of the video for Cold Nights?

Ted) Jeremy, on bass, didn’t tell us he was about to chop off all his hair. The Cold Nights video shows him with the longest hair in the band. Then he went and cut it. Now he looks so clean and fresh! Almost like a completely different dude! * RIP Jeremy’s long hair :p

Q3) What can fans expect from a live performance?

Ted) Fans up close should be prepared to get hit with some sweat! And possibly be a part of one of Amanda’s ventures off stage. We move around a lot, and Amanda has an extra long mic cord so she can go out into the audience for real intimate interactions. Alastair, on drums, could be a whole show on his own with the array of tricks he pulls off behind the kit, but his antics fit right in with the chaos happening all over the stage.

Q4) Is there a band or artist you think people should be paying more attention to?

Ted) That’s tough! I mean, there are whole genres and scenes that should be given more attention. But some artists actually just do really well within their own bubble. It might ruin what’s good about certain underground artists if they became “mainstream.” There are fans out there for everything. And artists out there making all kinds of music! But, if we had to pick just one band people should pay more attention to… we’d say us! The Meringues! XD (Also… Starcrawler)

Q5) Tell us something about you, that even your fans wouldn’t know.

Ted) Amanda owns a ton of plants and keeps buying more. Ted loves dill pickles. Jeremy has studied and most likely knows more about music and music theory than anyone in the band. He is also the youngest. Alastair has a pet rabbit.

BONUS QUESTION) Is there anything you want to share with our readers?

Ted) Although our performances on stage can seem pretty wild, we like to promote safe and welcoming spaces at our shows for people of all backgrounds. Regardless of what you look like, how you choose to identify yourself, what you believe in, where you come from, how you got here, who and how you love, and how your beautiful body moves through space. <3
