Mike Love with Jungle Man Sam at The Horseshoe Tavern [Toronto Live Show]

On Wednesday night I ventured back out to The Horseshoe Tavern, for the second night in a row, this time to see Mike Love and Jungle Man Sam.

Jungle Man Sam is an artist who’s been playing music since he was a child. Raised in Port Credit, Sam Morton now lives in LA. He lists his influences as Bob Marley, Ed Sheeran, Chance the Rapper, Damian Marley, Nahko, Macklemore, Jack Johnson, Diplo, and Trevor Hall, and if you listen, you can hear it all in his music.

Sam credits being raised in a multicultural city, the music program at Humber College, and world travel for helping him to become the artist he is today.

Once you listen, you’ll hear that Jungle Man Sam was an easy nod to open for the legendary Hawaiian Reggae singer-songwriter Mike Love in Toronto.

Sam was joined on stage at the Horseshoe Tavern by Ernesto Barahona on trombone, and Zaynab Wilson on percussion and the three of them did a great job getting everyone warmed up and ready for the main act.

You can find out more about Jungle Man Sam on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.

Next up, our headliner.

I’ve only been listening to Mike Love for about a year, but in that time I’ve become entranced by his sound, his message, his joy and his energy.

It’s impossible to listen to his music without having your spirits lifted.

The Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award Winning Musician from the beautiful Island of Oahu, Hawaii arrived barefoot and told the crowd that it was his first time in Toronto. I’m betting it won’t be his last. The reception he received when he walked on stage was warm and heartfelt. You could tell he felt our love, and in return, we felt his back. It was real, and it was special.

I’m going to drop in a link to my favourite song, and the most played song on Spotify. Mike employs live looping in his performances. There’s nothing prerecorded, and there’s no sampling. Added to that are his extreme beatboxing and pedal skills. It’s a full, rich sound, and I can’t get enough of it.

Having a rough day, throw on Mike Love, and he will lift your spirits.

On Wednesday night at the Horseshoe, Mike was joined by Sam Ites on drums and vocals, Jon Hawes on bass and vocals, and Keith Tsukamaki on keys and vocals. Mike Love is currently on tour in North America, and if you get the chance to see him, I highly urge you to make it happen. He’s got Jungle Man Sam with him, and tour dates can be found by clicking here.
