MacKenzie Porter at Boots and Hearts 2019

MacKenzie Porter at Boots and Hearts 2019, Sunday Front Porch Stage - shot by Whitney South 2

MacKenzie Porter returned to Boots and Hearts on Sunday and entertained the crowd with an energetic mix of original songs and covers.

The last time the Alberta native played the festival was in 2013, but she came back like she never missed a beat. At the tented stage, protected from the afternoon sun, Porter and the fans came together to have a little fun. Her set focused on new music with Drive Thru kicking things off. In the crowd, we could see people singing along which is always a great sign for an artist. On stage, the violin playing country singer looked comfortable and excited.

MacKenzie also looked cool and comfortable on stage, giving attention to the crowd, and putting on a show. She also looked super fashionable, crushing it in her festival season outfit.

As an early in the day performer that had a five-year gap in her musical career, MacKenzie Porter had a perfect plan for her Sunday set. After starting with Drive Thru and Cry Baby, she broke into a cover of Alanis Morissette’s 1995 classic, Hand In My Pocket. The song is a can’t miss hit with live crowds, and the countrified version that included Porter picking up her violin and playing like the pro she is took it to another level.

Note: We would have loved to hear Misfit Parade or If You Ask Me To. Here’s hoping we do in a longer set the next time we see MacKenzie perform.

From there she alternated originals and covers, wrapping up with a cover of Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) and her very first number-one single at Canadian country radio, About You. It was a perfect combination of fun-loving singing and dancing and the celebration and excitement that comes with MacKenzie Porter’s huge career accomplishment.

Last fall we spoke to MacKenzie about her new music and what’s coming next. If the plan is still the same, there’s more new music coming, and we can’t wait. We also can’t wait to see her on stage as part of Dean Brody and Dallas Smith’s Friends Don’t Let Friends Tour Alone Tour this fall. If that show is coming to a city near you, get a ticket and get their early to see MacKenzie Porter’s set!
