RaeLynn at Boots and Hearts 2019

RaeLynn, the 25-year-old Texas spitfire, made her way to the Boots and Hearts 2019 Main Stage on Saturday to give Canadian country music fans a taste of what she’s got.

With the afternoon sun high in the sky and enthusiastic festival-goers on day three of their musical weekend, RaeLynn brought a sparkle to the stage that set the tone for the rest of the day’s lineup. Songs like God Made Girls, Queens Don’t, and Rowdy had fans singing along and dancing as they looked up at her on the stage and catwalk. Dressed in the festival’s best double-denim Canadian tuxedo, RaeLynn was the complete package in her Boots and Hearts debut.

There were some great moments in the set that stand out and have stuck with us since the show. The first was an emotional highlight as she introduced and sang Love Triangle. The song is heavy and honest has connected with a lot of people in the three years since its release, and it did that again live on Saturday.

The second standout moment was a lot more fun-loving. RaeLynn broke into her unreleased (but already a live favourite) Bra Off with the catchy and clever line, “breaking up with you was like taking my bra off”. A quick Twitter search shows fans asking about the song being recorded and also showing love for it. But that wasn’t all. As the band played and she sang the song, RaeLynn casually threw in some Thank U, Next for the mash-up we didn’t know we needed, but loved completely.

The former member of Team Blake (The Voice, season 2) also worked the stage, dancing and twisting and shaking her hips for the crowd and showing that she’s a lot more than just a stand and sing performer. And that she can back up the sass in her lyrics.

RaeLynn has been in our country music-loving lives for a while now, but we have a feeling we still haven’t seen the best of what she’s got to offer or her peak as an artist. Seeing her live for the first time on Saturday gave us the best idea of what she’s got up her sleeve. And if we were to place a bet, it would be on us seeing and hearing a lot more from RaeLynn in the future.
