Last night, Hermitage Green played to a full house at Toronto’s The Mod Club.

The Limerick, Ireland band, is made up of Barry Murphy, Dan Murphy, Darragh Graham, Darragh Griffin & Dermot Sheedy. They’ve been playing together for about 10 years, and it shows in their cohesiveness.

Highlights of the night for me included their performances of, Heaven, All in All, a sweet drum interlude, and their cover of The Cranberries Dreams. There were plenty of goosebump moments throughout the evening.

Nearing the end of the set, lead singer Barry Murphy mentioned that this was the biggest crowd of the North American tour. He then expressed his gratitude to The Trews for helping to bring awareness of the band to Canada. The Civilianaires tour fostered a connection between the bands. With that, he said that they’d been playing a The Trews song, throughout the tour, but that tonight, they had a special treat for us. And then he introduced Colin MacDonald. Their combined voices and energies on Ishmael & Maggie were delightful.

But, they weren’t quite done. At this point, the band left the stage and played acoustically in the middle of the floor. Getting a full crowd at The Mod Club to be quiet enough for this type of performance is quite a feat. It was accomplished with The Once‘s By The Glow Of The Kerosene Light. Hermitage Green knows how to win over a Canadian crowd.

Their sound is soulful and beautiful, and their live performance takes everything up a notch. They’re not to be missed live. The band has two more North American dates, and then they head home with dates scheduled into January. For more info on upcoming dates, visit their website.
