Hotel Murder at Toronto’s The Bovine Sex Club

If the name Hotel Murder brings up visions of H.H. Holmes and the World’s Fair Hotel (informally called The Murder Castle), you’re in the right place.

The Toronto punk outfit debuted their new lineup Friday night at The Bovine, and we’re here to tell you the latest additions have added to the mix in the best possible way. Hotel Murder is made up of Alex Spence (previously with Jean Is Dead) on lead vocals, Nick MacDougall on drums, Faraz Jabbari on bass and vocals, and newcomers Jeff Mouland and Chris Hill on guitars.

Sitting second on the four-band lineup, their supporters showed up to fill the floor of The Bovine. Fans gathered around the club with posters in hand, hoping to get their merch signed.

Hotel Murder brings high-energy, great banter, and witty lyrics. The band was tight and in sync. Singer Alex Spence dishes up serious vocals layered on top of rich guitars, ferocious beats, and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Faraz’s bass playing and performance. It’s sexy, it’s dirty, and he’s so much fun to watch.

They finished up their set with their latest release, the self-titled Hotel Murder. With a beautiful call and answer chorus, it was the perfect ending to a slamming set.

Watch this space for more from this band. We’ll be putting together a full interview and a round of 5 Quick Questions soon!
