Carly Pearce, 2020 Album Review

Two and a half years after the release of her debut album, Every Little Thing, Carly Pearce is back with her self-titled 2020 album, nicknamed #CP2.

The 13-song album is a country music delight from the talented songstress. And while it may have taken a while to get here, we’re certainly happy for her to have this album out to the world. And we sure that she’s happy to see that I Hope You’re Happy Now (with Lee Brice) has already found its way into the Top #20 on the country charts, with a chance to go higher and start some momentum for the entire new album.

Carly Pearce the album does an excellent job of showcasing everything we already loved about Carly Pearce the singer. There’s no shortage of moments for her to portray big emotions through her voice, which she does so very well. There are many opportunities for her to explore both love and loss. Happiness and heartbreak. Ups and downs. And she navigates it all with a feeling of honesty that is the hallmark of country music and makes this record work.

We know that in her personal life, Pearce is a happy woman and has a happy partner in her husband, Michael Ray. So hearing them together on Finish Your Sentences seems like a perfect fit that we all should have seen coming and should all have expected to be good long before we heard it.

Note: As today is Valentine’s Day, we do want to wish Carly Pearce and Michael Ray all the love and happiness together – and we remember how cute it was when Ray showed up on stage at Boots & Hearts 2019 in a Carly Pearce t-shirt. Adorable.

Over 43 minutes, Pearce moves from one feeling to the next. She shows off her talent and voice without being showy. She hits hard without being obnoxious. She’s powerful and subtle. She’s good.

Oh, and if you were worried that the Hide The Wine singer (and noted red wine lover) would cut a record without a good vino track, we have good news. Lightning In A Bottle is a very sweet song about connecting and drinking and finding something special. In a short YouTube video, she explains how the song came to her via Hannah Ellis and while talking about it being a perfect fit for her says, “I needed my wine number two song.” She nailed it.

We don’t know what the plan is for Carly and her next single, but if she chooses Lightning In A Bottle, we think it would be a good choice.

We’ve had the chance to see Carly Pearce on a big festival stage at Boots & Hearts, in a small room at the Rock N Horse Saloon, and to sit down and talk to her about music. So to see her moving forward, with an album that she and her team should be proud of is very nice to see.

If you liked #CP1, we highly suggest that you get into #CP2.
