We woke up to the sad news this morning that Kenny Rogers passed away at the age of 81 from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family. The country music legend is survived by family, friends, and generations of fans who grew up on his music or passed it down to young ones with a reverence and appreciation it deserved.

When I saw the news I started thinking about the Kenny Rogers songs that have meant the most to me or that I’ve just loved to listen to and sing along with. The man put together a resume of more than 20 #1 singles, tens of millions of albums sold, and three Grammys. He recorded studio albums and holiday albums. He did classic duets and has one of the most well-known songs in the Western world in his library.
