MONOWHALES Release, BEAT UP: The RWLYD Remixes

We’ve been watching and tracking the career and music of MONOWHALES for a couple of years now, and when they released RWLYD (Really Wanna Let You Down) and it started climbing the charts and getting more and more attention, we were happy for the band and happy to sing and dance along. And when it got all the way to #3 on the Canadian Alternative Rock Radio chart, we knew that something special had happened.

But the song was destined for more!

Since its release, MONOWHALES have also released an acoustic version of the song and now the BEAT UP: The RWLYD Remixes EP including five fresh RWLYD remixes for fans. The remixes come from Canadian artists as well as Swedish artists with Mute Choir (Alessia Cara), Daniel Adams, and Adam Blinov all representing CAN and StoneBridge + Damien Hall (Sia, Usher, Missy Elliot, Arianna Grande, P!nk) and Musicmould flying the flag for SWE.

The five remixes on the EP bring the total number of official versions of the song to seven (including the original and the acoustic versions) – and that’s awesome in itself. It’s something we don’t see often, but we are here for it. And here for the good cause too.

MONOWHALES have stepped up and committed to donating all proceeds from streams of the release to BLAC (Black Legal Action Centre), a not-for-profit that delivers legal aid services to low and no income Black Ontarians. This commitment comes along with the announcement of the EP that the band made on Facebook including this quote…

Friday, July 3rd we will be releasing BEAT UP: The RWLYD Remixes. We had a plan to roll this out over the course of the week but we don’t feel it’s right to take up too much space on socials during this time. That being said, we are incredibly proud of the work that this international team of artists created, and we’re happy to be able to use it to give back to the movement by donating all proceeds from this release to BLAC (Black Legal Action Centre). We feel it is necessary to continue to give back to our community in this critical time in history and urge you to do the same in any way you can. We love you, Stay Safe out there. 💛 – MONOWHALES

The combination of artistry and activism and allyship and action is awesome. And we’re very happy to see it and to celebrate the music and the good work that MONOWHALES are doing with it.

The five tracks on BEAT UP: The RWLYD Remixes, are a lot of fun, each in their own way. If you’re looking to dance, they’ve got you. If you’re looking for a reimagined vibe from RWLYD, they’ve got you. And more than anything, they’ve facilitated something cool and let other talented artists work with their song to create something new and fresh from it.

We’ve got the streams for each of the remixes here, so hit play on them and give them a listen to hear for yourself how they turned out.

And don’t forget to share your favourites with your friends and add them to your playlist to help raise more funds for BLAC.
