Wolf Saga Releases Self-Titled Debut Album

Wolf Saga‘s bio describes him as an electropop polymath, and that comes through on his self-titled debut album.

The 8-track release features the previously dropped singles Get Back and Through This Night, and offers listeners a 30-minute journey into his artistic vision and execution.

The featured track on release day is Fall Out – and it’s a good choice. The track gives me the same kind of feelings I get from The Darcys. It moves, it makes me want to move, it’s hooky, and I was ready to sign along with the chorus by my second listen. It’s a job well done. And if Fall Out is your introduction to Wolf Saga, it’s a good place to start.

Hit play and listen now.

Wolf Saga – Fall Out

About the song, he says, “Fall Out is a song about leaving a toxic relationship, of any kind, and being able to keep your head up. Getting away from that and not getting caught up in the falling out.” adding, “The lyric ‘ghosts of who we’ve all been, come out and start screaming. Who’s had it, who’s had it less fair?’ will be significant for anyone who’s ever been in a nasty verbal fight with another person. Arguments can spiral into a competition of sorts, about who has been through more in their life, or who has it worse.”

Saga loves David Bowie, he counts him as an inspiration and even has a Bowie tattoo on his arm. And that inspiration comes through. I could hear it and instantly thought of the late-great star when I listened to Alice in Nowhere Land for the first time. I like it a lot. A lot.

The first time I was introduced to Wolf Saga as an artist was in the fall of 2019 when he opened for T. Thomason’s album release party at The Baby G in Toronto. That night he offered a stripped-down acoustic set that gave me a real storyteller vibe. And while this LP, complete with production and the electronic pieces that he includes has a different sound and vibe, the stories are still there.

Wolf Saga at The Baby G, September 2019

Hear Us, with Chippewa Travellers is another standout track. One that caught my attention and imagination and I think it’s a powerful addition to the album.

The emerging Indigenous artist has a lot going for him in the form of talent, vision, songwriting, and dedication. He’s not new to the work, not new to the industry, and not new to making music. He knows what he’s doing, so he’s doing it. But as with so many artists we appreciate, he’s pushing himself forward and making new sounds and styles and songs.

Wolf Saga is one to watch.
