Got It Bad, Shawnee Kish Releases New Single & Video!

2020 CBC Searchlight winner, Shawnee Kish is here with a banger! Got It Bad is a jam, a song that rolls from start to finish with good vibes and smiles.

Kish calls Got It Bad a “new part of my journey as an artist” in social media posts, adding, “It’s not so much that I have changed, it’s more that I have become. I’m so excited to share this next chapter as an artist with you who has shared this journey with me.” in another post. And if there’s more to come like this, it’s a journey we’re going to be excited to watch. We were first introduced to her as an artist in 2019 when she opened for T Thomason in Toronto – and since then we’ve been watching her release singles, earn praise, and grow her career under her first name only.

Now though, we are in a new chapter. And it starts with Got It Bad. Hit play on the video now to watch Shawnee Kish and her partner, Jen jam out in the car. It’s more fun than I could have imagined or hoped for. Just joy.

Shawnee Kish – Got It Bad

The Edmontonian, Mohawk Two Spirit singer/songwriter is one to watch. She’s talented. She’s driven. And she perseveres.

In talking about the song she says, “Creating this new music has been a breakthrough feeling for me as an artist. With this single I’ve pushed through personal barriers, fears and restrictions, coming into my own by growing and sharing the vulnerabilities I carry. Working with Brandon [Unis] and Brad [Simons] allowed me to create in the perfect setting for me, one where I felt supported. With this new music I am becoming more myself and my voice has never felt more free than it has with this new body of work.”

Shawnee Kish is also inspiring in the work she does away from the microphone. She’s dedicated to helping her communities. Her work with Indigenous youth and the LGBTQ+ communities through organizations including We Matter and Kids Help Phone is wonderful. And she deserves credit and love for that as much as for her music.

Congrats to Shawnee Kish on the start of her new journey, on the release of her new single, and for continuing to push forward. We’re here for it. And we’ll be watching, listening, and ready for more.

Check out these photos from that first night we saw Shawnee Kish at the Baby G in Toronto and hit play to stream Got It Bad one more time. Enjoy!
